Position Summary

University Advancement’s Finance and Accounting unit is seeking an experienced fiscal officer to join our energetic team. Reporting to the Accountant, the Financial Analyst I within University Advancement’s Finance and Accounting team will be the subject matter expert in areas of accounting, concur travel, life insurance and matching gift transfer processing. They will serve as fiscal officer to UA’s Constituency Programs with high concentration in travel and p-card transactions. The Financial Analyst I will create p-card, travel and other training procedures for staff as well as provide guidance on university policies and MAU procedures. Additional work includes researching, preparing, and verifying the accuracy of financial statements for departmental unit personnel and university departments.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Constituency Program and Fiscal Officer Duties

  • Manage 50+ accounts
  • Monthly reconciliation
  • E-doc review/approval

Insurance Processing

  • Serve as central contact for life insurance premium invoices when policies have been gifted to MSU
  • Log and track all premium dues; anticipate future premium payments and contact donors preemptively for payment of premiums
  • Utilize KFS to facilitate the payment of life insurance premiums and create/edit vendors
  • Enter contact reports for all communication regarding life insurance gifts and communications with insurance companies on University Advancement’s (UA) behalf.
  • Update surrender values on policies when policy statements are sent to us from the insurance companies
  • Matching gift transfer batching
  • Other duties as assigned respective to the classification and role

Constituency Program Travel Processing

  • Travel request/expense approvals
  • Assist/Train UA staff on travel procedures
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in accounting or finance with relevant course work in business administration; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in accounting, auditing, or financial analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with EBS, KFS, Business Intelligence, Query Studio, Concur Travel and Excel; excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in MSU policy and procedures; a self-starter whose strengths include problem solving, attention to detail and deadlines, creative thinking and experience working in a fast-paced environment.
