Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Law Enforcement Lieutenant- Ft. Piece, FL.

This position requires a certified law enforcement officer, vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests. Supervise people whose duties include the investigation, pursuit, apprehension, and arrest of law violators or suspected law violators.


Under supervision and general direction of the Assistant Chief of Police this position while administrative in nature must assist in directing the organization, staffing and operational activities for law enforcement operations and public safety activities at theHarbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) campus.

The Lieutenant is the Commander for the HBOI campus and must exercise independent judgment in the formulation and execution of departmental policies, procedures and regulations related to the core mission of the FAU Police department.

The Lieutenant directs and participates in the investigation of crimes and other related law enforcement incidents of importance at the HBOI campus utilizing knowledge of the criminal justice system and crime prevention and control procedures.

Responsible for directing daily operations of road patrol, traffic and support functions of the FAU Police department through supervision of sworn and non-sworn personnel in the daily performance of law enforcement and security duties utilizing best practice supervisory principles and practices.

Prepares directives, reviews for approval duty schedules and work assignments of personnel by determining work priorities and ensuring completion of work assignments.

Responsible for scheduling, deploying, training, discipline, welfare and evaluation of all personnel assigned to this command.

Reviews and approves Police reports through analysis and interpretation of law enforcement data.

Plans, organizes, directs and/or participates in the implementation of law enforcement, security, traffic control, and crime prevention programs within the University and reviews such programs being knowledgeable of and experienced in law enforcement principles and techniques.

Coordinates security and staff assignments for university special events and may assist the training coordinator with programs in the department necessary for maintaining law enforcement certification.

Prepares and updates departmental general orders, standing operating procedures and other policies.


Maintains liaison with the administrators of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in the implementation and coordination of law enforcement programs of the

department.


Establish and maintain effective working relationships and attends meetings with various university departments and make recommendations to the Chief of Police.

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma and 5 years of supervisory experience required.

Must meet the requirements of Chapter 943, Florida Statutes and have four years of sworn law enforcement or sworn investigative experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Salary:

$70,000 - $80,000 per year.
