Position Summary:


The Director of Rights and Responsibilities, in collaboration with the Director of Residence Life and Associate Dean of Students, contributes to the leadership of the Residential Experience Department. The Director of Rights and Responsibilities is responsible for the coordination and administration of the University’s Rights and Responsibilities office. The Director trains and advises Hearing Officers, Peer Boards, Integrity Boards, and Sexual Misconduct Boards. The Director provides leadership regarding complex legal and regulatory issues for students in higher education.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Student Conduct (50%)

    Serve as primary interpreter of Student Integrity CodeDirects day-to-day operation of campus student conduct system, which may include:
      Serve as primary investigator for alleged student conduct violationsProvide ongoing assessment and evaluation of student conduct policies and proceduresManage case assignment processConvene Integrity Board, Sexual Misconduct Board, and Peer BoardAssure that all cases are heard in a fair, equitable, and timely mannerAdjudicate higher level conduct casesEnsure that sanctions are completedManage communications related to student conduct – with students, hearing board members, Puget Sound departments, and families
    Communicate and collaborate regularly with the Deputy Title IX Coordinator regarding cases of sexual misconduct that may result in an Informal Resolution or Sexual Misconduct Board.In consideration of institutional liability and campus safety, consult with institutional leaders and legal counsel as neededIn an effort to collaboratively respond to incidents, meet weekly with Director of Security Services and Director of Residence LifeOversee compliance with federal and state mandates, including Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, etc.Functional lead for the conduct management software, Maxient.Collaborates with the Director of Student Support and Deputy Title IX Coordinator on Maxient training, inchancements, or changes.

Training, Development & Supervision (25%)

    Train and advise Residence Life staff, Residence Life student leaders, and other institutional staff on conduct-related mattersTrain and advise Hearing Officers, Peer Boards, Integrity Board, and Sexual Misconduct BoardFacilitate professional development opportunities for the Residential Experience staff on a regular basisSelect, train, and supervise a part-time Administrative Assistant (20 hours per week)Select, mentor, train, and advise students who volunteer for positions on Peer Board, and Integrity BoardSelect and supervise graduate interns as needed.

Student Concern & Conflict Resolution (15%)

    Leads the Threat Assessment Behavioral Intervention Team (TABIT)Serve as the primary representative from Residential Experience on the Care TeamLeads the Student of Concern meetings. Directs follow-up with all residential students of concern, including assigning tasks to Residential Experience staff and monitors follow through.Provides support and leadership to the development and delivery of proactive programs and services aimed at responding to students experiencing conflict

Administrative Responsibilities (10%)

    Create and implement assessment for office including end-of-year report summarizing student conduct statistics and contributions to student learning outcomes, and compile other reports as neededCoordinate and oversee publications including annual review of the Student Integrity Code, other institutional policies, and Student Conduct, both in print and onlineServe in administrator on-call rotation, averaging 2-3 weekends per semesterAssist with major Residential Experience programs and functions, such as Student Leader training, New Student arrival, Orientation presentations, and opening and closing of residence halls each semesterOther duties as needed

Qualifications:

    Master’s Degree; Master’s in Higher Education Administration or related field preferredMinimum of four years working in higher education; prior experience with student conduct preferredUnderstanding of roles within Student Affairs and a commitment to a developmental model of Student Conduct on college campusesStrong knowledge of intergroup relations and conflict resolution practicesWorking knowledge of state and federal legal issues related to higher education and student conductStrong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to manage confidential and sensitive situationsAbility to interact comfortably with a wide range of diverse people, including staff, students, faculty, and parents/guardiansAbility to function as an integral team member with the Division of Student AffairsFamiliarity with databases, preferably Maxient, and other computer software programsCommitment to professional ethicsCommitment to liberal arts educationCommitment to equal opportunity/affirmative actionAbility to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

Compensation and Benefits: The starting pay for this position will begin at $60,000 DOE. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
