As a core member of the Berkeley Haas Marketing & Communications team, the Assistant Marketing & Communications Manager helps tell the story that advances the Haas School's reputation and brand with key audiences, including prospective and current students, the news media, alumni and donors, faculty, and staff.

Specifically, the Assistant Marketing & Communications Manager supports the communications team, which produces online, print, multimedia, and social media content. This position helps with the planning, development, and implementation of promotional materials and in positioning the Haas School as a leader in business education.

The Assistant Marketing & Communications Manager must be a strong writer, be highly organized and detail-oriented, and be able to implement targeted communications plans and strategies. The employee in this position will have the opportunity to gain valuable communications experience across different media campaigns, platforms, and activities.

Haas embraces flexible working arrangements for its employees. Exact arrangements are determined in partnership with your supervisor to meet role responsibilities and department needs, and are subject to change. This role is eligible for a hybrid work plan but is expected to work on campus a minimum of one to two days a week and/or as needed.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, plans, develops and implements basic marketing plans and/or strategies for small or non-complex projects.

Manages social media platforms, which includes:
    Overseeing and executing daily social media schedule, content (typically promoting articles, news, and scholarship), and activity as well as monitoring channels for potential issues or engagement opportunities. Responding to messages. Regular analysis of performance (KPI) data/analytics in accordance with the overall communications strategy. Occasionally may conceive, plan, and manage the production of short video content for social media. May be responsible for event photography, live social media coverage, and other support at important events, including commencements, orientations, and other community gatherings.

Conducts basic market research and generates and uses marketing reports.

Supports PR efforts and outreach to news media, which includes:
    Creating and updating media contact lists with guidance from Content Co-Directors. Creating media toolkits to assist in news media campaigns. Managing publication of weekly Berkeley Haas news clips to Haas community via tracking, archiving, writing descriptions, and publishing weekly newsletter. Assists with promoting events and other priority materials in accordance with the communications strategy. Sends emails to community members via Mailchimp.

Creates/maintains marketing files, records, calendars, logs and other related documents.
    Creates/maintains photo library (including metadata), the Haas YouTube channel, and social media calendar. Schedules photo shoots. Logs media clips. Maintains faculty bio web pages.

Drafts and/or edits copy for marketing projects or programs such as publications, advertisements, press releases, announcements, etc.
    Under the direction of the Content Co-Directors, writes, researches, and edits material for news briefs, newsletters, web announcements, and/or publications for internal and external audiences. This includes researching visual assets for web and print uses. May conduct short interviews with Haas School students for a variety of news and social media platforms. May also assist with editing and proofreading copy, ensuring clarity, organization, accuracy, style, and quality of written work.

Engages in ongoing education to promote diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging by completing University sponsored certifications & training sessions (Ie: MEP Workshop, Implicit Bias Certification, LinkedIn Learning workshops, and other workshops & seminars offered by the University or Haas, as they are made available) or by engaging in external seminars & resources related to DEIB. Required Qualifications
    Solid knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, strategies and best practices. Organizational skills and skills in file creation, maintenance, and management as well as maintenance and management of media lists and mentions and photo library. Solid knowledge of various social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) as well as best practices for promoting articles/news/scholarship to key audiences, boosting engagement, and analytics tools for these platforms. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite applications, WordPress, social media platforms, Adobe Photoshop, email services, and video conferencing platforms with the ability to learn new computer programs and software systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Thorough attention to detail as well as project management and organizational skills. Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation to achieve clear, lively, engaging, and compelling copy for a variety of audiences. Excellent collaboration skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members. Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in a business, organization or public university setting.

Education/Training:
    Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications
    2 years experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or closely related professional communications role with progressive independence. Experience working in higher education or with a research, scientific, or nonprofit organization.

Salary & Benefits

This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) non-exempt position. Hourly pay is commensurate with experience up to $36.83.
