The Department of Geology at San José State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in any area of Structural Geology/Tectonics (e.g., tectonic evolution of orogens, structural analysis of basins, arcs, subduction complexes, and fault and/or shear zone processes). Scholars with expertise in field and other observational or analytical techniques (e.g., geochronology, remote sensing) are especially welcome to apply.
Our department has strengths in active tectonics, applied geology, and field geology. We are seeking a dynamic individual to join a collegial department that values diversity in the teaching and research environment. - Ph.D. degree in the Geosciences/Earth Sciences
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
Priority will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:
- Postdoctoral experience
- A record of obtaining extramural funding
- A record of excellence in teaching or evidence of promise for excellence in teaching
- Previous experience with mentoring undergraduates and/or graduate students, especially those from historically underserved backgrounds
- Teaching courses in Structural Geology, Tectonics, and Field Geology (Field Camp)
- Teaching and curricular development of undergraduate and graduate courses in area of expertise
- Teaching non-majors courses (General Education)
- Research involving undergraduate and graduate students
- Applying for external funding to support research activities
- The candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
- The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
