Position Information: Description

The Department of Communication at the University of North Dakota seeks a tenure-track assistant professor contingent on available funding. The selected applicant will be expected to establish a successful research program in alignment with one or more of the university’s Grand Challenges, including big data (e.g., computational communication science), national security and space, energy sustainability, and rural health and communities. The obtainment of external funding will be expected for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will receive an initial contract with an approximate effort distribution of 40% teaching, 50% research and 10% service. Publishing peer-reviewed journal articles on a regular basis and the obtainment of external funding will be expected for tenure. The teaching load will be 2/1 or 1/2 for the first year and 2/2 thereafter. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) courses both face-to-face and online. Assigned courses will be consistent with area of expertise. All faculty, including the person hired for this position, are expected to contribute service within to the department, college, university, and community. Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Communication or related discipline by 8/16/2023
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check

Minimum Hiring Salary

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Contract Period/Start Date

Position is full-time, benefitted and exempt. Dates of initial contract are August 16, 2023 – May 15, 2024. Summer teaching may be available but is neither guaranteed nor required.
