About us:

The University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) system is the largest academic library in Canada and is ranked sixth among peer institutions in North America. The system consists of 42 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 280 graduate programs, including over 60 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 15 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of resources in various forms, including, for example, electronic, audio-visual, and geospatial materials. UTL also has over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries' data centre houses more than 500 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes

Your opportunity:

This position will work under the direction of the Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure & Staff Technology, and work with a team of developers and systems administrators in the Library Information Technology Services department. The incumbent will be responsible for the engineering, implementation and support of technical products and systems for a variety of ITS services. The successful applicant will collaborate on diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware/software issues. The incumbent will also work to improve continuous integration and delivery systems, as well as CI/CD pipelines and automate routine deployment, administration, and monitoring responsibilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and programming network applications
  • Customizing open source web applications
  • Analyzing and installing networking equipment
  • Configuring system applications according to needs
  • Troubleshooting complex computer system problems
  • Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years recent and related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in infrastructure automation coding using scripting (PowerShell, VBscript, Perl or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining and operating Windows based servers and software (SCCM/MECM, Windows VPN, Windows Certificate Server, Windows cluster server, Domain Controller, IIS, File and Print server, WSUS)
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting SQL database environments like MSSQL and MySQL
  • Knowledge of virtualization, HyperV or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Knowledge of practices and tools related to DevOps, IaC and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Gitlab, Chef).
  • In-depth knowledge of managed desktops and automated deployement of windows operating systems, software, and configurations.
  • Understanding of requirements for remote managment of off-site assets.
  • Knowledge of Mac OS software deployment.
