INTRODUCTION

The Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut Neag School of Education invites applications for a full-time faculty position in research methods, measurement, and evaluation at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in UConn’s new interdisciplinary M.S. in Data Science program (https://masters.datascience.uconn.edu/), as well as appropriate courses in the Research Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation program. In addition to teaching, this individual will be expected to advise graduate students and participate in service and outreach activities, with the opportunity to collaborate with faculty on data science program development and research.

The University of Connecticut’s Educational Psychology Department is regularly ranked among the top of its kind in the nation, per U.S. News & World Report. With nearly 40 faculty members, the Department is among the most productive at the University. In addition to the program in Research Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation, the Educational Psychology Department has programs in Learning Sciences; Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology; Educational Technology; Giftedness, Creativity, and Talent Development; School Psychology; and Special Education.

The Neag School of Education stands out as a major contributor to instructional and research excellence at the University of Connecticut, one of the nation’s leading public higher education institutions. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities include teaching courses in the M.S. in Data Science program; teaching courses in the Research Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation program; advising graduate students; and contributing to the program, Department, School, University, and state through research, service, and/or outreach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned Ph.D. in data science, statistics, quantitative research methods, measurement, or related field by August 23, 2023.
  • Teaching interests in data science, measurement, and/or causal inference.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one of the following areas: Quantitative Research Methods, Educational Measurement, Educational Statistics, or Program Evaluation.
  • Experience and expertise in statistical programming (using R and/or Python) and version control.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A record of or demonstrated potential for quality teaching in data science, measurement, and/or causal inference.
  • Demonstrated potential to teach graduate-level classes in data science, research methods, measurement, and/or statistics, both online and in person.
  • Applied data science or research experience in industry, government, and/or education.
  • A record of or demonstrated potential for advising master’s students.
  • Demonstrated potential for collaborating with faculty in the research methods, measurement, and evaluation program and with faculty in the interdisciplinary data science program.
  • Interest in research and/or problems of practice in the social, behavioral, and/or educational domains.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Interest, experience, and expertise in reproducible research practices.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2023. This is a 1-year appointment, renewable annually for up to 3 years, does not lead to permanent academic tenure and must be specifically renewed to continue past its end date. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
