The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes Autoantibody/HLA Laboratory has an opening for a full-time Faculty position.

Professional Field

Clinical endocrinology with specialized experience in Type 1 Diabetes and laboratory experience in clinical immunology focused on T1D autoantibody and serological biomarker research studies.

Nature of Work

The person hired into this position is expected to develop an independent research program on the contributions of islet autoantibodies, serological biomarkers and HLA genetics in the development of Type 1 diabetes (T1D). The individual will initially expected to run a mentored research program and apply for funding, with the goal of transitioning into an independent research faculty position. They will be expected to participate in the research and enrichment activities of the BDC, attend faculty meetings and collaborate with BDC faculty.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Improve and develop autoantibody assays, design autoantibody related research studies
  • Write grants and manuscripts
  • Establish, implement and run an independent research program in collaboration with Dr. Yu
  • Evaluate and interpret results in the context of the literature
  • Train and supervise post-doc fellows, research assistants, and student workers
  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the lab and research programs
  • Participate in BDC Research In Progress series and seminars
  • Develop and implement new research areas as they pertain to T1D

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $80,000 - $90,000.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications
    Education: MD in clinical medicine PhD in clinical endocrinology and type 1 diabetes research Experience: Three-years post-doc laboratory research working on autoantibody research studies of type 1 diabetes Three-years clinic experience specializing in endocrinology
    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Research experience in human clinical trials.
    • Strong publication record with at least 5 first author papers.
    • Work experience in CLIA and CAP certified clinical laboratory for 2-3 years and familiar with the rules and management of clinical laboratory.
    • Research experience on celiac disease and Covid-19 antibody studies.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and congenially within a diverse research and clinical environment.
    • Ability to clearly communicate complex scientific information in verbal and written form.
    • Laboratory techniques including autoantibody radio-binding assay and electrochemiluminescence assay, antibody subtyping, molecular cloning, antigen protein preparations with in vitro transcription/translation and radio-labeling
    • Data analysis and statistics
