Clinician, Diversity and Inclusion Focus

 

George Mason University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) invites applicants for the position of full time (1.0 FTE) Clinician, Diversity and Inclusion Focus. CAPS supports students through ethical and responsive care and prevention. We foster the well-being of the diverse Mason community through psychological, outreach, and consultation services. We provide high-quality training to emerging mental health professionals. We are committed to excellence in psychological services by promoting student safety, enhancing emotional growth, and supporting academic success.

 

The Staff Clinician, Diversity and Inclusion Focus has clinical, outreach, and training experience serving diverse populations, with a professional focus on the needs of students of color. This individual provides psychological programs and mental health services to Mason students, with a focus on meeting the needs of marginalized student populations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a range of clinical services including individual and group counseling, intakes, crisis intervention including after-hours consultation, and case management services; primarily focused on supporting students from AAPI, BIPOC, Latinx and/or LGBTQIA+ populations;
  • Provide community education and outreach programming to marginalized student groups;
  • Provide support for the Diversity Committee of CAPS;
  • Provide consultation services to students/faculty/staff/family/others;
  • Participate in training activities such as providing individual supervision, co-leading and supervising therapy groups, providing trainee seminars, and contributing in the trainee selection processes;
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CAPS’ multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations;
  • Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and CAPS policies; and
  •  Participate on CAPS and university committees as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology (obtained prior to start of employment); or Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling;
  • Current independent licensure in Virginia (or ability to obtain licensure within 4 months of hire) as a psychologist, social worker, or counselor (PLEASE NOTE: Virginia does not require post-doctoral hours to obtain licensure as a Psychologist);
  • At least one year of experience working in a university counseling center;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical setting with clients presenting in acute distress;
  • Experience with brief psychotherapy and group psychotherapy; and
  • Evidence of cultural awareness, and commitment to working with diverse populations.
