Position Summary:

The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Technician (TMS) is responsible for providing patient care under the direct supervision of a psychiatrist, The TMS technician will operate transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) machines to provide TMS treatments to patients with major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder in the CU Medicine Faculty Practice TMS Program. The TMS technician will also follow research protocols to provide TMS for experimental indications such as PTSD, substance use disorders, and disorders of executive functioning. They will provide support and psychoeducation to patients receiving TMS for psychiatric conditions.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Prepare patients for ascertainment of motor evoked potential.
  • Operate and control settings of electrophysiologic recording device.
  • Measure, calculate, and log recorded electrophysiologic information.
  • Independently administer TMS according to clinical and research protocols:
  • Ascertain motor evoked potential.
  • Operate and control settings of electrophysiologic recording device.
  • Measure, calculate, and log recorded electrophysiologic information.
  • Correctly position the TMS coil.
  • Monitor for adverse effects and notify the psychiatrist.
  • Assist in the management of adverse effects including seizures.
  • Administer validated rating scales to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Provide psychoeducation curriculum to patients.
  • Actively participate in marketing and patient recruitment.
  • Obtain insurance authorization.
  • Assist psychiatrist by gathering and reviewing medical records to aid in appropriate patient selection.
  • Provide any in-house required trainings on TMS machines.
  • Maintain and improve skills by participation in in-services and trainings.
  • Follow infection control guidelines, including universal precautions.
  • Participate in scheduled individual supervision, health team meetings, interdisciplinary work groups, staff meetings, and other required meetings.
  • Complete all required clinical and administrative documentation to accepted standards of practice, accurately, legibly, and by established timelines on electronic health record (EHR) system and paper as needed.
    • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations according to protocols.
    • Cleans exam rooms and other patient care areas between each patient.
    • Maintains work areas, exam rooms, supplies, equipment, medications, immunizations.
    • Adheres to employer work practices, policies and procedures, including office and state protocols.
    • Documents work processes as required.
    • Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned, such as completing patient visit records, maintaining departmental logs, answering telephones and taking messages, checking in patients, and scheduling patient appointments.

    Minimum Qualifications:
      High School Diploma or GED. At least one (1) year of experience in health care related field.

    Conditions of Employment:
    • Healthcare provider level CPR certification (within 30 days of hire).
    • Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.

    Substitution: Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications:
      Associate's degree. Previous experience as a TMS technician. 2+ year related experience in medical office setting. 1+ year experience specific to department. EPIC experience. Bilingual, Spanish-speaking. Current CMA, CNA, and PCT certification (i.e., AAMA, NCCT). MS Office: Outlook, Power Point, Word. Kronos.

    Salary and Benefits:

    The starting rate (or hiring rate) for this position begins at $39,890.16 per year.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
