Posting Summary:

This position improves safety and reduces the liability and compliance risks associated with injuries and incidents at UVM by identifying potentially hazardous conditions, work practices and activities; developing, implementing, and improving workplace safety programs; assisting UVM departments and personnel to evaluate, develop and implement safe work practices and control measures; and ensuring compliance with federal and state workplace safety regulations, industry best practices, and UVM policies and operating procedures.This position reports to an Administrative Services Manager (Safety Programs Manager) and requires active engagement in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great customer experience.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):

• Effective communication skills.• Bachelor’s degree in related science and four years of experience that provides necessary skills, knowledge, abilities, and familiarity with (V)OSHA and EPA/VT DEC regulations.• OSHA Outreach Construction & General Industry Authorized Trainer certification to teach OSHA 10/30-hour course, or ability to obtain certification.• Valid Vermont driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid Vermont driver’s license.• Ability to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to workplace diversity, sustainability and delivering exceptional value and great experience to customers.• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.• Subject to acceptable background check.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Certification in safety field (e.g. Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, etc.)• Indoor Environmentalist Certification• Experience in research or academic laboratory operations• Public Health experience

Special Conditions:

A probationary period may be required, 40 hour work week
