General Description:

Under the direction of the Center for Learning and Teaching Director, the instructional technology specialist works directly with faculty, staff, and students to provide timely and effective LMS and technical support. This person is also responsible for working as part of the CLT team to develop and deliver training and resources, assist with LMS administrative tasks, and investigate and train with various technology for use in the classroom. The incumbent will also work on various Academic Affairs and CLT initiatives as assigned to improve the quality of instruction, online education, services, innovative technology use at OCCC.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Associate’s degree or two years of college-level coursework in computer applications, instructional technology, or a related area

Relevant experience performing the duties of the job may substitute for the educational requirement.

Two years of recent experience in an educational setting and/or in a setting working with various types of computer software, applications, or hardware

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively by phone, email, and in-person

Strong interpersonal, customer service, and active listening skills

Exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills

A positive attitude and ability to work in a busy and diverse team environment

Ability to work as part of a project team

Proficiency with computers, the Internet, and technology

Ability to troubleshoot a wide variety of basic PC and browser issues

Experience using Office 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

Basic writing and researching skills

Ability to easily learn and teach new skills and technologies

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

May need to lift 25 lbs., move computer equipment, and/or squat/kneel
Work is typically performed in an office environment.
Heavy computer use on a daily basis

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree

More than 2 years of experience providing LMS support, technical support, and/or training
More than 2 years of experience in an education setting

Work Hours:

CLT Hours of Operation:
Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The majority of work will occur during the CLT’s regular hours. However, evenings and weekends may be needed occasionally.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):


Provides prompt and daily assistance with OCCC’s Learning Management System (LMS) as well as basic technology issues relating to Office 365, email, Adobe, Zoom, general computer/ browser issues, and other software to students, faculty, and staff via phone, email, Zoom, and/or in-person consultations

Troubleshoots end-user issues with web browsers, software, and learning technologies

Uses ticketing systems to record and track support requests

Assists with LMS administrative tasks as assigned and under the direction of the CLT Director and in collaboration with the LMS Administrator

Reports trends or complex LMS issues to appropriate CLT team members

Maintains relationship with the ITS Help Desk to assist with supports as needed

Assists with making improvements and updates to the CLT’s webpages

Works on various Academic Affairs and CLT initiatives as needed

Researches new and innovative instructional technologies for viability within a classroom and online settings and works with the CLT team to identify potential equipment and training needs

Collaborates with the CLT staff and with faculty to implement new technology as well as build, produce, and improve online courses, services, and instructional materials

Creates and develops training, workshops, and resources for faculty on various and emerging technologies by working with the CLT’s instructional designers and the LMS Administrator

Maintains up-to-date computer skills by attending training on new equipment and learning new/modified procedures and software

Collaborates with other CLT staff to work with faculty to gain an understanding of course objectives and outcomes

Assists faculty and staff with options for presenting instructional materials or presentations using a variety of software applications
Helps ensure course materials comply with copyright law and Section 508/accessibility guidelines

Aids with the updating and maintenance of CLT computers

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
