• Extensive travel, evening and weekend work.

This position allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.

Job Description

Leads athletic communication team with planning of execution of 15 NCAA Division 1 sport information needs. This is including but not limited to: digital media, social media, print media, media requests, pre and post game media, annual yearbook development, delegating sport assignments to one full time employee and four graduate assistants. Supervises communications operations to ensure engagement with a larger audience.

Position Oversight - 50%

• Understanding, compliance, and commitment to all NCAA, Big Sky Conference and institutional rules.
• Provide departmental oversight and strategic planning for all external communications involving Intercollegiate Athletics to include print, website and social media.
• Oversee game day and press box operations and various other duties.
• Provide creative planning and comprehensive content development as well as leading initiatives to build upon and enhance the NAU brand.
• Serve as an official source for vital statistics and general information describing university athletics and teams.
• Serve as a member of the department's Senior Staff.
• Travel with teams playing away games to promote interest and attendance as required.

Communication and Outreach - 40%

• Athletic Department liaison to local, regional and national media outlets.
• Serve as the point of contact for University's Public Affairs Team.
• Serve as the primary contact for football and men's basketball.
• Manage Communications team.
• Design, coordinate, and produce all publications, including media guides, news releases and brochures.
• Compile team statistics and records.
• Supervise content of website and social media efforts.

Other - 10%

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications or related field.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of University Athletics
• Experience with Statcrew software
• Skills in writing and desktop publishing (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
• Basic video editing skills
• Experience supervising staff, students and working with volunteer groups
• Familiarity with SIDEARM Website Host Management System
• Four+ years of experience at the Division I level
• Willingness to work flexible and irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong computer skills.
• Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Creativity and attention to detail.

Driving Requirement

Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business to pass an online defensive driving course and submit their driver's license number for periodic records review. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive any university-owned motorized vehicles or personally-owned vehicles on University business. A driving record check and completion of required training must be completed before driving occurs on behalf of the university. Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $62,996. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
