Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Research and Program Associate will provide research and programmatic support and aid with the implementation of the Community-Engaged Intensives in the Humanities Initiative, funded by the funded by the Mellon Foundation. This is a grant-funded, limited term position, reporting to the Director of the Office of Community-Engaged Learning and is expected to end on or around August 2024. This is a part-time, 25-hour per week, full-year position. A partially remote or flexible work schedule is possible.

Responsibilities:
Programmatic research and development:
  • Research potential speakers and workshops to bring to campus that align with critical community engagement, critical pedagogy, critical race theory, critical feminism, etc.
  • Assist with development and updating of resources/guidelines/toolkit to help guide faculty, students, and community partners through the process of developing CEIH projects.
  • Research similar initiatives and relevant course descriptions at other institutions.
  • Conduct focus groups with students, faculty, and community partners to understand a convergence of interests.
  • Create asset maps of the local community by cataloging key services, benefits, and resources, as well as documenting community-identified needs.
  • Create a forum for faculty and community partners to connect to brainstorm community-based research projects to be developed through Intensives.
  • Assist with the process of developing a framework for assessment and evaluation, including researching other examples of collaborative, participatory, and empowerment approaches to assessment.
  • Support and conduct evaluation processes with students, faculty, and community partners about the learning outcomes, including, but not limited to, surveys, storytelling, focus groups, and interviews.


Administrative:
  • Work with Co-Principal Investigators to manage and report on the overall grant budget and the budgets for individual intensives.
  • Support quantitative and qualitative data collection for assessment and evaluation.
  • Manage logistical planning and execution of workshops, events, campus visits for community partners, and site visits for faculty/ students. Document budget and reconcile workday expenses. This includes completing appropriate transactions in Workday specific to Procurement Card transactions and Expense Reports.
  • Follow-up on Call for Proposals including sending out budget sheets and archiving received proposals.
  • Maintain records, materials and documents associated with each intensive; maintain the Initiative's google drive.
  • Collect and collate material for grant reporting. This might include follow-up with faculty, students, and community partners.
  • Support implementation of intensives - including liaising with appropriate departmental staff for purchase of supplies, transportation requests etc.
  • Coordinate scheduling of CEIH committee meetings and co-create meeting agenda; take detailed notes at steering committee meetings; produce meeting summaries. Track decisions and follow-up items during meetings and calls and in coordination with other team members.
Communications, Publicity and Outreach:
  • Responsible for maintaining website and social media presence for the Initiative.
  • Create a monthly newsletter for the initiative - including compiling a summary of relevant events, activities, conferences, grant deadlines and other relevant information.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Communications for publicity for CEIH- related events, intensives, student development stories, etc.
  • Connect with the Advancement Office to share with alumni donors.
  • Assist in organizing informational sessions for faculty, community partners and students.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; 3-5 years of experience or equivalent in community engaged learning, higher education, non-profit, grants, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong proficiency with data collection, grant writing, review, analysis and reporting.
  • Interest in and familiarity with community-based work, community-engaged learning or critical service-learning pedagogy, curriculum development, and campus- community collaborations.
  • Strong proficiency with the use of software platforms and high degree of comfort with multiple technology applications, including Excel, Google Suite, Word, PowerPoint, Canva or Adobe Creative Suite and databases. Willingness to learn new software.
  • Flexible, problem solver with a can-do attitude who is interested in helping to develop a new initiative.
  • Creative thinker who collaborates well with a team but who can also work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate clear objectives, listen generously, and drive accountability.
  • Strong writing and research skills. Ability to analyze information and communicate it to diverse audiences in multi-media format and in a clear manner.
  • Knowledge of Poughkeepsie/ Dutchess County desirable.
