JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Educational and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives is a member of the Residential Life Central Leadership Team and will report directly to the Executive Director. The Director will provide leadership to the Department’s Residential Learning Model [RLM], a curricular approach to programming and educational opportunities for residential students, and will provide leadership, guidance, and direction for the residential life program around diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to drive inclusive excellence throughout the residential communities and departmental staff teams. The Director will also partner with the Executive Director of First Year Programs and Learning Communities and their staff to coordinate the academic initiatives within Residential Life’s Residential Learning Communities.

The Director will contribute in meaningful ways to the administration and development of internal and external diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to ensure that staff at all levels integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the content expert with relation to the management and oversight of all aspects of the Residential Learning Model (RLM). Serve as a resource for staff in the development implementation, and assessment of intentional programs, services, and activities that will meet the unique needs of a diverse student population.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to staff at all levels. Manage the coordination of the departmental efforts related to the application of the RLM which includes advising the departmental leadership team on current issues and best practices and chairing the RLM review committee.
  • Chair department committees related to the RLM and DE&I initiatives. Serve on other committees as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the budget management related to the Residential Learning Model, the living learning communities, and DE&I initiatives.
  • Provide leadership to the Department of Residential Life as it relates to all living learning communities and students who participate in these programs. Work in conjunction with the Executive Director for FYP and Learning Communities to design and develop assessment measures, evaluating existing programs, and developing future communities in a manner consistent with the goals expressed by UConn’s strategic goals.
  • Represent Residential Life at meetings with Faculty Directors, First Year Programs and Learning Communities (FYPLC) staff, providing resources and guidance on Residential Life programs and processes.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Residential Life with University departments responsible for diversity, equity, and inclusion education efforts for students and staff.
  • Participate with the Associate Director of Student Welfare in the coordination and implementation of the departmental responses to Bias Related Incidents.
  • Serve as a member of the Department Central Leadership Team.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation with the other members of the Central Leadership Team.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and assessment efforts of the Department of Residential Life with a focus on academic initiatives, living learning communities, and diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in a related field.
  2. Five to seven years of full-time, progressive, post-master’s experience in Residential Life or related field.
  3. Experience implementing and facilitating diversity, equity, and inclusion educational programs.
  4. Experience working with diverse student and staff groups.
  5. Experience in crisis response.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Ph.D. or EdD in college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, education, or a related field.
  2. Ten or more years of full-time progressive experience in residential life.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to facilitate meetings and training.
  4. Experience working with residential living learning communities.
  5. Experience working at mid-size and large public universities with a residential population of 5,000 or more.
  6. Involvement in professional organizations.
