HES Visiting Instructor Position Overview:

This position is for the 2023 Spring semester only.

The Human Environmental Sciences – Human Development and Family Science visiting professor provides a quality learning experience for students. The visiting instructor serves as a teacher and facilitator of learning and will perform instructor-related responsibilities in a timely manner. The visiting professor is expected to deliver an educational experience to students consistent with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. Teaching and departmental/school service is expected, as well as specific service to the college and department’s support of online delivery. This is a one-semester visiting instructor position.

The Human Environmental Sciences Department is seeking a quality educator to serve our students in some combination of online and face-to-face classes. Faculty’s primary responsibilities for teaching will be connected to those courses needed for the Child development degree path.

Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate (master's level) courses in research and specialty areas and other services courses such as Child/Infant Development. Additional responsibilities include involving students in research, serving on committees, and advisement.

The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Child Development or related field. The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of infant/child development and child behavior & guidance. Also, the successful candidate will adhere to the educational philosophy of the university, and work in a collaborative manner with colleagues, members of professional organizations, and community leaders and field site mentors. Excellence in teaching and demonstrated and/or potential for scholarly activity is requested.

Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.

College/Department Overview:

The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). UCO's College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one-fourth of whom are graduate students. Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Teaches a course load of 12 credit hours for the semester, evaluates student performance and maintains department records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serve on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Teaching; research; departmental, school, college, and university services is expected.

Qualifications Experience/Education Required:

An earned Master’s degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field of Child/Infant Development or closely related field (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).

Experience/Education Preferred:

Teaching in face-to-face and online experience preferred. Trained in D2L (Desire to Learn).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Possess excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
