Position Summary:

Governors State University is a minority-serving institution seeking nominations and applications for several full-time tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Information Technology in the Division of Science, Mathematics and Technology, College of Arts and Sciences. The position is available to begin in Fall semester of 2023-2024 academic year, with the possibility for an early start in January 2023. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate/graduate IT related courses. We seek candidates with outstanding teaching skills, experience working with non-traditional and diverse student populations, evidence of (or potential for) a distinguished record of scholarship as well as community service via projects, committees and/or leadership roles. Governors State University’s Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology has continued to grow thanks in part to our economic value, excellent staff, and student support services. We have strived to make a comprehensive program that combines traditional and hands-on learning styles that is innovative and provides timely job skills to graduates. Starting in the Fall of 2021 we introduced a Master of Science in Information Technology. Since then, we have seen tremendous growth from those looking to receive an advanced degree as well as those looking to make a career change.

Governors State University is the only regional public comprehensive university in Chicago’s south suburban area, serving more than 5,500 students annually. GSU offers a wide variety of master’s programs and several applied doctoral degrees in health, counseling fields, and Interdisciplinary Leadership.

GSU’s 750-acre campus encompasses the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park yet is conveniently located within easy reach of Chicago and surrounding communities with a wealth of cultural and natural attractions. Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in IT or related fields.2. Industry recognized certification(s)3. Knowledge and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses4. Documented record of an ability to make intellectual contributions through scholarly publications/presentations consistent with the maintenance of AQ (“Academically Qualified”) faculty status under accreditation standards.5. Ability to complement the program’s strengths.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. in Information Technology or a related field, or ABD in the final stages of completion in Information Technology or a related field.2. Professional (i.e., industry) experience is highly desirable.3. Teaching and/or professional experience in multiple areas.4. Ability to develop and teach online (web-based) courses.5. Experience in teaching and advising non-traditional or diverse student populations.6. Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish, Arabic or Hindi preferred).
