Job Description:
Title: Director of Business Innovation Center
Unit: DCE
Department: Workforce Development
Reports To: Assistant Director of Workforce Development
Date: Fall 2023
The Director of the Business Innovation Center reports to the Dean of Workforce and Business Development and supervises the Center's Program Managers and administrative staff. The Business Innovation Center will:
- Be a significant asset to our surrounding community, bringing expertise and a common purpose that supports economic stability.
- Be a small business resource center that provides business incubator common space, technical support, training, and support for new business start-ups.
- Be an entrepreneurial incubator to expand the existing academic offerings provided to RCC students through degree and certificate programs, non-credit, and short-term training programs for English language learners and high school equivalency recipients.
The Director plans, designs, and implements strategies to improve and expand the Center's business programs, including online and hybrid programs and customized training. In addition, the Director markets new and existing offerings to prospective businesses. The Director also develops and implements continuous improvement strategies to ensure that services are efficient, effective, high quality, and customer centered and advances the College's marketing efforts by representing the College at community and business events.
Supervision Received: Dean of Workforce and Business Development
Supervision Exercised: The Director supervises all center staff.
Essential Functions:
- Support entrepreneurship training and new business and economic development for the Roxbury Community College.
- Expand the information, training, and experience of students who might be better served as entrepreneurs, expand a home community-based or family-based business, or move to digital marketing.
- Provide an essential resource for the college[1] to link directly to career paths and entrepreneurial opportunities for the students we serve.
- Provide an on-campus incubator for student business ideas available outside the traditional university calendar
- Enhance RCC's research capability to collect, analyze, and report meaningful qualitative data.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor and evaluate program performance
- Develop and maintain partnerships with employers to mine training opportunities.
- Write and implement grants for programs in areas of high demand that meet the needs of the community and employers.
- Ensure that programs maximize revenue and minimize expenses to the College where applicable.
- Collaborate with the marketing department and staff to develop marketing collateral and social media to promote the Center's programs.
- Recruit, hire and supervise course instructors.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Workforce and Business Development to develop and manage a budget for all BIC programs and operations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred
- 3-5 years of experience with business development programs, including grant-funded programs
- Ability to build and manage strong relationships with community and business partners
- Experience with grant writing and grant management
- Excellent written, oral, and people skills
- Experience with data management and analysis and committed to continuous quality improvement and diligence
- Demonstrated a positive and proactive approach to problem-solving
- Ability to multitask and manage competing projects
Additional Desired Qualification
- Familiarity with the public business development system.
- Skilled in Microsoft computer applications, including Word Excel and PowerPoint

Additional Information:
Salary: Salary commensurate with academic background and experience. This position is funded through a five-year federal grant from the Department of Education's Predominantly Black Institution's Grants Division. RCC is currently in year two of the grant.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9:00am-5:00pm
