SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Custodial Worker is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, maintaining buildings, and for the general upkeep of grounds to include snow removal as necessary.

This position will work 2nd shift from 3 p.m. - 11 p.m., Monday through Friday.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. The Custodial Worker receives overall direction from, reports directly and is responsible to the Custodial Supervisor. This position requires only routine supervision.

B. The Custodial Worker primarily performs custodial operations. Should emergencies arise, he may assist with other Facilities operations as requested by the Maintenance Supervisor.

C. The position does not require the supervision of other personnel.

D. The Custodial Worker coordinates most closely with the Custodial Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor and other custodial/maintenance staff members in carrying out assigned responsibilities.

E. HCC anticipates, in the future, having a custodial team presence on a 24/7 time frame. As such, the shift hours/days may change as deemed necessary to meet HCC operational needs.

DUTIES

A. Performs custodial duties.

1. Dry mops floors.

2. Wet mops floors.

3. Vacuums and cleans carpets.

4. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, locker rooms, shower stalls, and restocks paper and soap supplies.

5. Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.

6. Gathers and disposes of refuse.

7. Polishes furniture, metal rails, and fixtures.

8. Cleans and sanitizes water fountains and telephones.

9. Cleans and deodorizes trash cans.

10. Removes graffiti from desks, walls, and bathrooms partitions.

11. Cleans blackboards and marker boards.

12. Maintains supply closet and requests supplies as needed.

14. Moves and arranges furniture for meetings and conferences.

15. Sweeps entrances to building.

18. Removes snow from walkways, driveways, and parking lots; salts or sands as required. May use motorized snow removal equipment.

19. May change light bulbs as required.

20. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices

21. Locks doors after cleaning areas.

22. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

23. Observes and reports hazardous conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma and 2 years related experience, ability to read, write, and follow instructions or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have ability to follow general maintenance and cleaning practices of buildings and grounds, materials, and equipment; ability to operate a variety of motorized maintenance equipment (floor buffers, scrubbers, shampooers, floor strippers, snow blowers, etc.); ability to follow simple oral and written instructions; ability to move heavy items and move furniture.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT

Valid motor vehicle operator's license; work different shift as required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Some shop conditions; travel between buildings and across campus; moving heavy equipment or other materials; use of ladders; exposure to cleaning chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises; little or no heat or air conditioning during late night shift. Custodial work requires physical exertion, heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects weighting up to 50 pounds. The position requires following basic safety precautions.


This position is considered ESSENTIAL and is required to report for snow removal and other emergencies.
