Overview

The mission of Princeton University Department of Athletics is to strive for excellence in academics and athletics, while embracing equity in opportunity, good sportsmanship, and ethical conduct.

 

The Associate Director of Athletics for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will lead the athletic department’s efforts to create and maintain a culture of mutual respect and unity and to combat bias based on gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race and all other identities. The position will have oversight of all aspects of DEI education and training for student-athletes, coaches and staff within the athletics department. The position will also work collaboratively with the University’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Campus Life.

Responsibilities

• Oversight of all aspects of DEI education and training for staff and for student-athletes.• Work with department and University constituents to implement principles and policies for the effective recruitment and retention of staff members and student-athletes of underrepresented groups.

• Oversight/leadership of Departmental Tigers Together Initiative.• Liaison to the University Office of Diversity and Inclusion.• Serve as liaison to and support student-athlete affinity groups including, but not limited to, Athlete Ally, Black Student Athlete Collective, and Asian Student Athletes at Princeton.

• Serve as department’s NCAA athletics diversity and inclusion designee.• Adhere to all University, Ivy League, ECAC and NCAA rules and regulations.• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master's or professional degree required

• 5-7 years or more work experience

• Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.• Exceptional organizational skills • Strong written and oral communication skills• Demonstrated skills at building collaborative relationships with internal and external colleagues• Extensive knowledge of D&I topics, including current research, national trends in higher education, and theoretical models• Experience with curriculum/content development• Relevant experience developing and facilitating training on a wide range of diversity and inclusion topics, concepts, and social constructs, etc.• The ability to communicate effectively with various constituencies • Comfortable with conflict and able to manage difficult conversations in training and workshop settings• Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment • Experience with budgeting, financial controls and fiscal accountability• Exercising discretion at all times and able to keep confidential all data related to Princeton • The willingness to work flexible and long hours, including evenings and weekends • Commitment to Department of Athletics mission of Education Through Athletics
