FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences invites applications for two full-time lecturer/doctoral lecturer positions in the Dietetics, Foods and, Nutrition program, beginning Spring 2023. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The successful candidates are expected to participate fully in the life of the Program, Department, College, and University by teaching DFN courses through wide ranging modalities (i.e. in-person, online, hybrid, daytime, evening, weekend); mentoring and advising students; providingstrategic leadership and program administration; participating incommittee work; and contributing generally to the intellectually vibrant environment of the Program and Department.

The program in Dietetics, Foods and, Nutrition is currently housed in the Department of Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences, which is part of the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing (HS2N). The program offers an undergraduate degree with two majors (Nutrition and Dietetics major which prepares students to apply for a dietic internship to become RDNs; and,Culinary and Community Nutrition major that prepares students to become Certified Dietary Managers, work in food service operations, or to work in community nutrition and community food programs);a graduate degree in nutrition, and the dietetic internship. With over 500 majors, it is one of the largest undergraduate programs at Lehman.

The School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing currently includes six departments: Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences;Exercise Science and Recreation; Health Equity, Administration & Technology;Social Work; Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, and Nursing. The school is also home to the CUNY Institute for Health Equity. Departments in the School actively engage with community and government partners to support evidence-based practices and health equity, with a special emphasis on urban populations. Faculty are also strongly committed to high quality teaching and preparation of ethical and skilled health and human service professionals.

Lehman is a four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic-serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students, preparing them for employment, the professions, and further study. The teaching load is 24 credit hours. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement, including advisement. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Rank of Lecturer:

Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise;Master’s degree (preferred) in Nutrition (or related field) with RD credentials, proven administrative and leadership skills, ability to successfully teach through diverse modalities. Also required are demonstrated experience working in a large and diverse program and, the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Experience with ACEND accreditation standards is a plus.

Rank of Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule):

Ph.D. degreein Nutrition (or related field) with RD credentials, proven administrative and leadership skills, ability to successfully teach through diverse modalities. Also required are demonstrated experience working in a large and diverse program and, the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Experience with ACEND accreditation standards is a plus.

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

COMPENSATION

$86,698-$92,242

Salaries are commensurate with education and relevant experience and are subject to the Professional Staff Congress-CUNY salary schedule (http://www.psc-cuny.org/contract/psc-cuny-contract-salary-schedule). Lehman has joined with the Bronx Superintendent of Schools’ Office and the educational reform organization New Visions for Public Schools to develop seven new small high schools in the Bronx. The schools—housed within larger, traditional high schools—are formed around the themes of the visual arts, teaching, music, college readiness, health sciences, nursing and allied health, and community research and learning.

In addition, in Fall 2003, the High School of American Studies at Lehman College opened on the Lehman campus. One of New York City’s new specialized high schools and the only one to focus on American history, the school represents a collaboration among Lehman College, the New York City Department of Education, and the Gilder-Lehrman Foundation.
