Position Summary

The Urban and Regional Planning Program in the School of Planning, Design & Construction (SPDC) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for an Assistant Instructor to teach the Planning Law and Development course for Spring 2023. The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:20am to 12:10pm from January 9^th through May 5th. The Planning and Development Law class is URP’s required core course that covers a broad array of the major legal concepts and issues in a variety of planning and development contexts. This position necessitates guiding students in completing papers, presentations and quizzes to understand the positive and negative consequences of developing and implementing regulatory controls and the application of the Code of Ethics and professional conduct of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

Position is planned to recur every Spring Semester

Minimum Requirements

• This position requires a degree in Urban and Regional Planning from an accredited U.S. University.
• Required qualifications include planning and development law experience in professional planning practice, preferably in Michigan.
• Strong presentation experience before professional bodies, citizens or students is required.

Desired Qualifications

• The AICP credential is preferred.

The Urban and Regional Planning program was established in 1946, the Program is accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) since 1987. We offer a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning (BSURP), a Master of Urban and Regional planning (MURP) and a Ph.D. in Planning, Design and Construction. The overall vision/mission of the Urban & Regional Planning (URP) Program is to create a sustainable built and natural environment that enriches communities through leadership, entrepreneurial creativity, social responsibility and environmentally sustainable planning and policy. Toward that end, the URP program strives to offer exemplary teaching in the programs offered, relevant and timely research, and foster a sense of community among faculty, students, alumni, staff and other stakeholders.
