Senior HR Specialist, Policy, Risk Management, & Compliance

The Department of Human Resources seeks applications for a Senior HR Specialist, Policy Risk Management and Compliance (PRMC) to support the University of Virginia. The Senior HR Specialist, PRMC is an individual contributor that provides legal or regulatory advice and representation to faculty, staff and leadership.  This will include assisting with a variety of policy governance, risk management and compliance activities. This position supports HR policy creation, modification, interpretation, application, and also ensures that HR complies with regulatory requirements.

As part of the Employee Relations team the Senior HR Specialist, PRMC will report to the Director of Employee Relations. The Employee Relations team within UVA HR is committed to building positive relationships, providing a quality work balance through fair treatment of employees, and resolving employee matters and concerns in a fair and consistent manner.UVA HR Employee Relations provides our faculty, staff and team members with the tools and resources to ensure an equitable, fair, and positive work environment.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring and managing HR compliance and regulatory reporting.

  • Defining and documenting policies and procedures related to the standards established by the business that comply with applicable external legislation/regulations but may also reflect a higher standard than the legally required minimum.

  • SOEI/COI compliance, employee compliance training and ensuring employee completion of all required courses; auditing compliance with programs & procedures, investigating complaints and verifying that deficiencies are corrected.

  • Maintaining the UVA HR Compliance Webpage, Labor Law Posters compliance, Federal and State Legislative review, processing subpoena requests, EEOC compliant responses and other related duties as assigned.  

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with at least seven years of experience in an exempt-level (professional) HR position.

  • Bachelor's degree with at least five years of exempt-level experience, or a Master's degree with at least four years of exempt-level experience.

  • The ability to lead and manage complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Experience working with HR systems and controls is preferred.

  • The ability to apply innovative problem solving and analytical skills to navigate barriers thoughtfully and tactfully to progress 

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position is located in Charlottesville Va.
