Team Shop and Events Manager


Responsible for the daily management and operations of the Team Shop in Neyland Stadium and at all University of Tennessee Athletic events. Responsible for staffing, supervising, and merchandising the Team Shop in Neyland Stadium and UT Athletic events; maintains and secures cash deposits, inventories, merchandise at the direction of supervisor. Provides guidance and supervision to student supervisors and employees, along with the training of the same employees. Implements new and/or revised procedures. Maintains inventory records and coordinates with Assistant Director Licensed Apparel Stores or buying office to replenish merchandise. May be weekend manager on duty or accommodate late closings.

Job Function/Responsibilities:


Creates payroll plans based on sales goals and based on schedule for up to approximately 50 students for all Team Shop operating hours and athletic events. Recruits, selects, trains staff to perform day-to-day operations. Responsible for supervision of employees as well as training. Delegates tasks and provides direction to students and student supervisors. Manage daily work assignments of student supervisors. Coordinate with VolShop accounting office and University Police to schedule delivery/pickup of funds used for events. Work with Marketing Manager to fill signage and promotional needs. Work with IT Manager and OIT to support off and on campus locations with register and other technology needs. Acts as a point of contact for and works with University of Tennessee Athletic Department facilities staff to ensure all equipment, including trailers and kiosks are set for events as well as cords, lights, tents, etc. Oversees twice yearly inventory counts. Maintains and secures cash deposits, and transfer of money for all locations following established procedures. Attend athletic event meetings for events as scheduled and coordinate all aspects of event sales setup with University of Tennessee Athletic Department.

Merchandising/Inventory Management:

Event manager directs team to merchandise all Team Shop locations. Responsible for ensuring staff stocks items, prices accordingly, and creates displays to maximize sales and to create a positive shopping experience. Uses store vehicles to move stock between locations. Work with vendors and buying staff to maintain merchandise at appropriate levels including re-order needs. May transfer merchandise between other VolShop stores and move merchandise to physical location. Responsible for the security of the sales floor at all event locations to minimize loss of inventory.

Customer Service/Store Operations:

Perform as retail cashier when necessary, setting example of exceptional customer service for staff. Opens and closes event locations. Investigates and resolves customer complaints. Ensures customers have a pleasant and enjoyable experience while shopping to create repeat business which may include using best judgement to make exceptions to customer service policies and return and exchange policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Skills: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Proved ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment, demostrative ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment. Must be organized and maintain clean, orderly stockrooms.
  • Ability: Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge: Should be knowledgeable of athletics, including fan base, game rules, and upcoming games/events. Ability to learn in-house inventory, point-of-sale, time-clock systems.
Required level/type of experience and/or years of experience:

  • 1 year retail experience plus 1 year supervisor experience.
Preferred level/type of experience and/or years of experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a retail environment.
