The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is looking to hire a Director of Academic Advising to join the Academic Affairs Team. Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security, and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.

The Director of Academic Advising is responsible for the development, implementation, and operation of a community of practice for advising at the Prescott Campus. Although academic advisors have a dotted line reporting structure to their respective college dean, the Director supervises all professional academic advisors. The Director collaborates with the ADSSS, college deans, the registrar, and department heads to develop student success and retention strategies including UNIV 101 College Success course, and effective advising opportunities. The Director will work collaboratively with advisors to identify professional development opportunities, policy and process consistency, and cross training needs. Responsible for budget, communications, and needs identification for the Advising Team, and the UNIV 101 course including the Campus Academic Mentor (CAM) program. Works with all programs and campus partners to continuously improve professional advising, the UNIV 101 course, and the CAM program.

Academic Advising:

  • Develop the implementation of the Appreciative Advising model to frame advising sessions and communicate effectively with students across the campus.
  • Collaborate to develop consistent processes to assist students with registration, course selection, schedule changes, academic planning, college adjustment, and referral to college resources.
  • Collaborate with faculty to monitor student progress and provide outreach to students as needed, suggesting strategies for academic improvement and success.
  • Lead the program for professional development to maintain and enhance relevant advising skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Administrative Role:

  • Lead the collaboration with academic advisors from all university Colleges to enhance advising services and implement strategies that further student success.
  • Implement retention efforts such as UNIV 101 College Success course for first-semester students.
  • Participate in department meetings and functions as needed.
  • Serve as liaison to Admissions, Registrar, Housing, Cashier’s Office, Dean of Students Office, International Student Services, Study Abroad, and other departments and colleges as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records, using technology resources.
  • Be the primary liaison for all software implementation initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned based on the needs of the university.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree.Area of study: STEM subject, psychology, sociology, counseling, communication, education or other related field.

Preferred Education:

Master’s degree. Area of study: Higher Education, counseling, psychology, STEM subject, or other related field
