The Program Administrator position is responsible for the day-to- day administration of the African American Studies Program and supervision of the Program Coordinator. Position reports directly to the African American Studies Program Director and assists the director in identifying and implementing the academic, administrative, and financial goals and duties of the program.

The responsibilities of the Program Administrator include:

  • To manage the program's finances and oversee all expenditures, including determining needs and preparing budgets and financial reports; procuring supplies and equipment; arranging and authorizing payments to outside vendors; and monitoring faculty research account expenditures.
  • To provide administrative support to the program by advising on University policy and procedure, and by coordinating with the Chair, faculty leadership, and outside offices to ensure all administrative requirements are met successfully, including program planning exercises and other projects.
  • With the Director of Graduate Studies, to administer the graduate program, including student registration; financial aid; and processing paperwork relating to degree and graduation requirements.
  • With the Curriculum Committee, to assist with curricular planning, including scheduling all undergraduate and graduate courses; evaluating course staffing needs; and guiding new course proposals and updates to the Academic Bulletins.
  • To administer personnel actions, including completing all appointment and re-appointment paperwork and coordinating administrative aspects of faculty searches.
  • To coordinate all guest lectures and local, national, and international conferences and events sponsored by the program, including all logistical aspects of booking, organizing, and budgeting for events.
  • To supervise a full-time Senior Program Coordinator.
Required Skills

A cover letter is required for consideration.

  • B.A./B.S. and three or more years of relevant experience.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Strong interpersonal skills Good computer skills, including Excel and Word.
  • Strong organizational and process management skills.
