Provides administrative support for the Student Affairs Office at Boston University School of Law in support of its mission and programming by: tracking and reconciling multiple financial and administrative processes for office and student leader initiatives; collaborating with and assisting the Student Affairs team in regard to the execution and assessment of our key areas of responsibility for the School of Law; and fostering a welcoming, safe, and equitable environment for the BU Law community.

BUDGET/FINANCE 40%:

  • Tracks and reconciles approximately 40 unique administrative; donated; and student fee-based budgets.
  • Manages multiple financial and administrative processes for office and student leader initiatives involving purchasing, facilities and services logistics, and project management.
  • Tracks and reconciles financial reimbursement processing for student groups.
  • Trains staff and students on purchasing, reimbursement and related policies.
  • Retains records of various group budgets, initiatives and assessments.

OFFICE ADMINISTRATION -30%:

  • Primary responsibility for several projects, such as the student Photobook, updating the Student Affairs sections of the BU Law website, and locker assignments.
  • Provides students with information and resources to address personal or professional challenges, and can be the initial contact for students in crisis.
  • Sends University and School of Law communications to the JD students through centralized distribution systems.
  • Supports the front-of-office work-study contacts, frequently addressing a wide range of student questions about the School of Law or Boston University, generally.
  • Fosters a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for the BU Law community.
  • Represents the Office on School of Law committees, such as the BU Law web council.
  • Attends trainings as they pertain to the duties of the position.
  • Updates the Student Affairs Office webpages with the other Student Affairs team members.

STUDENT AFFAIRS OFFICE PROGRAMMING -10%:

  • Collaborates with the Student Affairs team to develop Orientation, affinity events, student appreciation days, and community building initiatives in the School of Law.
  • Contributes to the implementation of two BU Law JD Orientation programs, social events, student recognition events, and wellness initiatives by placing orders and coordinating multiple offices' contributions to large events.
  • Coordinates wellness programming during exam periods.
  • Supports successful programming for the office and for the more than 30 student groups by carrying out financial and administrative processes.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES and EVENTS 5%:

  • Advises students on policies and procedures for events, working with the Registrar and room reservations manager as needed.
  • Assists in the set-up of events, coordination of speakers, and evaluation of office initiatives.
  • Updates the School of Law's calendars to promote law events.
  • Posts notices of events and deadlines electronically and throughout the School.

ASSESSMENT 15%:

  • Supports the Associate Dean for Student Affairs with implementation of multiple assessments of students related to their overall experience at the School of Law, at events, and as needs arise.
  • Collaborates with the Student Affairs team for the execution and assessment of our key areas of responsibility for the School of Law.
Required Skills

A cover letter is required for consideration.

  • B.A./B.S. and 1-3 years of experience
  • Computer competency in Office programs required
  • Reliable, consistent budget tracking and reconciliation required
  • WordPress experience preferred
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology strongly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to student development, diversity, equity, and the ability to juggle multiple projects required. Basic understanding of social media strongly preferred.
