Job Description:The University of Florida (UF) Department of Anthropology (https://anthro.ufl.edu//) invites applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure-accruing position in archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 16, 2023. We are interested in candidates with methodological expertise in remote sensing, geospatial data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and/or computational modeling and simulation, and with specialization in the archaeology of Mesoamerica. Applicants with a geographic focus on the Yucatán Peninsula and/or expertise in near-surface geophysical survey are particularly welcome. Candidates should have active field projects with community engagement and a willingness to contribute to UF’s Study Abroad Program in Merida, Mexico. The successful candidate will contribute to UF’s research capacity in the Neotropics, land use and environmental change, Latin American Studies, and its emphasis on circum-Gulf studies, as well as curricular needs of the existing PhD program and a new MA in public archaeology. Also expected is a willingness to network with local archaeological stakeholders in the service of the new MA program. The Department of Anthropology has 32 core faculty members, ~100 graduate students, and ~350 undergraduate majors. We are an interdisciplinary unit within a large, research-intensive (R1) university that has more than 52,000 students.

The successful candidate will have: (1) a Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology by the time of employment, (2) an established record of publishing in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, (3) an established field research program, (4) a compelling plan for future research, (5) teaching experience that demonstrates the ability to contribute to the undergraduate and graduate curricula, and (6) a willingness to mentor undergraduate, MA, and Ph.D. students. Successful applicants will be expected to seek extramural funding to support their research program. Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.
