Department Information

The Department of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy provides comprehensive undergraduate major programs in chemistry and physics and teaches disciplinary and interdisciplinary courses in the core curriculum.
Our programs are designed to provide depth in the discipline through sequential study. Emphasis is placed on scientific reasoning, critical thinking, and problem solving. Recognizing that there is a profound connection between analytical thinking and the ability to express ideas clearly, the Department provides opportunities in its courses for writing on science topics and for oral reports.

Job Summary

This position will teach introductory astronomy courses, and serve as Laboratory Coordinator for all introductory astronomy labs. As a nontenure track appointment with a primary focus on teaching, there is not a research expectation.

Teach academic courses and support the department, college and university goals by supporting the academic environment to benefit the educational mission of the
University.

Responsibilities

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
1) Teaching introductory astronomy lectures.
2) Ability to maintain internally developed astronomy lab materials and resources.
3) Maintain planetarium and astronomy labs.


Faculty - Service to Institution -
Faculty are expected to demonstrate service that directly impacts the quality of education provided to students and is related to a faculty member's primary teaching duties.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Ph.D/ ABD or MS in Astronomy

Must meet SCACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
1) Teaching experience in astronomy at the college level.
2) Ability to maintain internally developed astronomy lab materials and resources.
3) Well versed in best practices in assessing student learning
