Summary

The Pharmacy Technician is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. The Pharmacy Technician position resides within the Campus Health Pharmacy and reports to the Pharmacist in Charge. The individual serving in this role performs the technical tasks of many pharmacy-related functions, in accordance with local, state, and federal laws; professional and accreditation standards; and organizational policies and procedures.

This position contributes substantially to the ongoing integrity of pharmacy operations. The Pharmacy Technician receives and fills prescription requests for patients under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), maintains patient profiles, and is the primary telephone contact for incoming pharmacy calls. Pharmacy-related primary functions include greeting clients; entry of prescription data into the pharmacy computer system; preparation (including insurance verification), packaging, and labeling of prescribed medications for dispensing by the pharmacist; and maintenance and control of medication inventory for the pharmacy and patient care areas. This position requires excellent computer and organization skills.The Pharmacy Technician must provide excellent customer service to our patients and medical staff to facilitate care and maintain a consistently high standard of care.

Required Qualifications

  • Current pharmacy technician certificate issued by LA Board of Pharmacy or be enrolled in a Board approved didactic program and onsite work permit issued to the pharmacy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience in retail pharmacy setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business/college and/or medical terminology courses
  • Typing accuracy at least 45 words per minute
  • 5 years pharmacy technician experience
