Position Summary:

This position involves assisting the College Physician by providing diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services under the guidance of the physician. The physician assistant will deliver skilled, ethical, culturally responsive, evidence-based, comprehensive primary health care, inclusive of assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral to students in a clinical setting, placing an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention, within the scope of practice of a Physician’s Assistant in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The work requires knowledge of specific observation and examination procedures, the work does not include the full scope of interpretation of medical findings requiring the full professional background of a licensed physician.

Abilities and Skills:

-Knowledge of professional theory and practice and organizational policies, procedures and standards to give and evaluate patient care. (Minimum)
-Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. (Minimum)
-Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. (Minimum)
-Skills in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of physician assistant to provide ongoing primary patient care. (Minimum)
-Skill in identifying problems and recommend solutions. (Minimum)

-Ability to develop and maintain quality standards and improvement. (Minimum)
-Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, co-workers, physician and College staff. (Minimum)

-Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or ability to obtain. (Minimum)
-Develop and evaluate own goals for professional growth in conjunction with staying current on federal, state, and local regulations and recommendations that impact the college community.
-Update computer skills as required for documentation of patient records, and other uses. (Minimum)
-Adhere to professional standards, all policies, clinician protocols, and regulations established by College Health Services. (Minimum)

Education:

-Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). (Minimum)
-Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification. (Minimum)
-Current Pennsylvania License as Medical Physician Assistant. (Minimum)

Experience:

-Five (5) years of successful experience as a Physician Assistant in a Family Practice or Emergency Medicine setting. (Minimum)
-Experience in Occupational Health/work related injuries may be beneficial. (Desired)

Responsibilities and Duties :

-Take a medical history of a student/employee. (Essential)
-Perform independently or assist and support Physician in minor procedures. (Essential)
-Develop and carry out treatment plans, confirming with Physician as needed. (Essential)
-Conduct physical exams on students/employees. (Essential)
-Order and interpret lab tests, consulting with Physician as needed. (Essential)
-Diagnose illnesses, consulting with Physician as needed. (Essential)
-Identify and manage acute and chronic health problems in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and current medical literature resources and by utilizing modalities such as nutrition, exercise, counseling, and smoking cessation techniques. (Essential)
-Refer patients to respective specialists, hospitalization or emergency care, as needed. (Essential)
-Evaluate need for follow up, effectiveness of interventions, patient responses to plan of care, making necessary modifications if necessary. (Essential)
-Administer shots (injections)/immunizations. (Essential)
-Treat minor injuries or illness, inclusive of Covid and Covid like symptoms. (Essential)
-Provide appropriate health related counseling as needed. (Essential)
-Write prescriptions that fall within the prescription guidelines for PA’s. (Essential)
-Perform therapies. (Essential)
-Provide verbal communication to patients regarding laboratory and imaging results, as well as provide precise and accurate information to enable the patient to make informed health care decisions, followed by thorough and timely documentation of all pertinent data, including clinician/patient interactions, in EHR. (Essential)
-Work collaboratively with, and as a consultant to, other members of the clinical team on the joint management of patients, as well as including the offices of Counseling Services and Disability and -Access Resources, allowing for thorough treatment options for patients. (Essential)
-Develop/deliver educational presentations for the clinical team and/or campus community. (Desired)
-Participate in campus health and wellness initiatives by offering patient education on health promotion and health maintenance strategies, guidance, screenings, and appropriate referrals for extended care measures as indicated. (Desired)

As such, are required to use the following elements of the Learning Management System (LMS): Upload all syllabi, timely use of the grade feature, maintain attendance records, and collection of digital student work and distribution of digital course materials.
