JOB SUMMARY

The Werth Institute serves to bring together UConn’s ecosystem of programs and resources available to facilitate student interest in entrepreneurship and innovation. It also develops and delivers targeted programs that encourage broader participation in entrepreneurship throughout the student population.

The Operations Manager for the Werth Institute is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and overseeing the successful execution of many facets of the organization’s area of responsibility. This includes personnel, programs, and infrastructure. Following is an overview of the specific areas of responsibility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Operations Manager takes the lead authority in identifying and attracting new members and developing opportunities for them to collaborate with each other. They must be viewed as a leader and someone others want to support and follow.The Operations Manager will be creative in coming up with new ways to engage the members and make the ecosystem increasingly valuable to the students and each other.Oversee staff operations including performance reviews, bi-weekly approval of timecards, and coordination of intern hires to optimize their impact and prevent gaps and overlaps in coverage.Assist the Director in setting priorities for expenses and general approach to budgeting. Create, obtain approval, and manage Storrs expenses within budget.Oversee website strategy with input from Director and staff. Hire and manage an intern responsible for website implementation including setting the work schedule and deliverables.Drive the development of the Werth Institute’s social media strategy working with the Director, staff, and overseeing student intern implementation of the strategy including measuring outcomes against targets. This includes coordinating a social media calendar for maximum leverage, impact, and engagement.Creating and implementing a plan to gather input from a large number of stakeholders throughout the University in a timely manner, coordinating responses and translating them into meaningful data that is representative of UConn’s entrepreneurship offering and outcomes, assisting the Director in responding to open questions on the survey, and socializing the survey prior to submitting it to Princeton.Experience Innovation Expo Event: Develop a strategic plan for this complex event which has multiple components so that it attracts students and makes them aware of opportunities they may want to consider.HackUConn: Partner with FYE & LC to plan and host the annual HackUConn which is UConn’s flagship hackathon and a leading event for fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.Attend and participate in relevant programs and events, representing the Werth Institute while continuously developing unique promotional strategies to promote the Werth Institute and the advantages of developing entrepreneurial skills, whether or not a student wants to become an entrepreneur.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a current UConn regular payroll employee at Storrs and the Regional Campuses.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.4-5 years of related experience.Familiarity with university systems and processes: Core CT.Proven expertise collaborating with a variety of departments and personnel to achieve stated objectives.Management of 100+ attendee events including successful outcome. Collecting and analyzing data relevant to University surveys and general requests.Experience mentoring students. Entrepreneurial spirit and acumen. Proven ability to lead and work in team settings.Higher education and entrepreneurship experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    MBA or Masters's in a related field.Familiarity with social media platforms, website design, and strategy development. Development of matrix and benchmarks for tracking key initiatives.Financial management experience including budget, fundraising, and tracking. Supervising professional staff or student interns.
