The College of Arts & Media, Dean's Office is currently seeking applications for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) People Operations / HR Assistant (HR Intermediate Professional).

Position Emphasis/Nature of Work:

The People Operations / HR Assistant will provide a high level of critical assistance as directed by the Director of People Operations/HR for the College of Arts & Media. This will include HR data entry of transactions, oversight of student and lecturer hiring, process facility access and keys, new employee on-boarding, payroll review for accuracy, record keeping, and ensuring required trainings are complete.

Examples of Work Performed:

Assist the Director People Operations/HR with the day-to-day operations of the HR functions and duties, ensuring all aspects of HR are accurately and ethically completed, while maintaining discretion, professionalism, and accuracy. Communicate and provide updates of workload and any issues to the Director of People Operations/HR.

Human Capital Management
  • Create data entry transactions in the Human Capital Management (HCM) system related to compensation, position, and personnel management. Including but not limited to:
  • New hires
  • Terminations
  • Short work breaks
  • Reappointments
  • Additional jobs
  • Pay rate changes
  • Supervisor changes
  • Percent of time changes
  • Sabbaticals
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete HR records ensuring compliance with Federal, State and University laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Handle private information and maintain integrity and discretion of personnel files.
  • Maintain recruitment files in compliance with HR standards.

  • Payroll
    • Accurately and timely input monthly, biweekly, and off-cycle payroll data.
    • Review, confirm, and interpret payroll register data to identify issues or inaccurate payroll allocations.
    • Create and submit PETs for approvals.
    • Create, route, process payroll forms for approval and signatures, as needed additional pay forms.

    Talent Acquisition
    • Oversee the recruitment process for student employees. Including but not limited to:
    • Post on CAM HR or Handshake
    • Assist with interviews as needed
    • Ensure legal and fair search processes are followed
    • Send and process new hire documents
    • Hire into HCM
    • Draft and send employment terms and letters
  • Assist the recruitment activities for faculty, staff, and student worker positions through the Human Capital Management (HCM) and CU Careers systems.
  • Assist with the search functions and may serve as a search coordinator/search committee member when appropriate and as needed.
  • Draft letters of offer.
  • Assist with the onboarding processes for new employees.

  • Other
    • Perform other duties and tasks, and aids with projects as assigned and approved by Director of People Operations/HR.
    • Ensure all documentation is accurate and complete, and personnel actions are compliant with law, regulation, or policy.
    • Process purchase requests for CAM HR via p-card or CU Marketplace and reconcile expense reports.
    • Process facility access and key requests/retrievals.
    • Complete exit procedures for employees.

    Other duties, projects, and tasks as assigned and needed.

    Minimum Qualifications:
      Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

    Substitution: 4 years of fulltime payroll and/or human resources professional experience.
      1 year of professional level work experience providing people operations/human resources and/or payroll functions

    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Conditions of Employment:
    • Must be willing and able to successfully pass a national criminal and sex offender background check
    • Must be willing and able to work after hours as needed for various projects
    • Must be willing and able to adhere to CU Denver's COVID-19 guidelines
    • Must be willing and able to maintain a regular on-campus presence – some remote work available

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with current HR technologies:
    • PeopleSoft
    • CU Careers
  • Experience inputting timely and private data/content into an HR data entry system.
  • Experience working with HR procedures, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience working in higher education or an academic institution.
  • Experience editing and proofing professional correspondence, such as letters of offer, to ensure appropriateness and professionalism.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
      Proven experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse population at all levels throughout the institution—and into the community. Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner, across various modalities. Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks in parallel to maintaining attention to detail. Demonstrated allegiance and influential ability to embrace and advance equity and inclusion. Ability to establish work priorities, follow through, and meet established deadlines. Strong judgment and critical thinking skills. Ability to deliberately listen and communicate relevant information, anticipate problems, and offer suggestions for resolution. Knowledge of professional standards, concepts and practices related to Human Resources. Ability to evaluate and interpret a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations to exercise good judgement in application. Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws and regulations. Allegiance to maintain strict discretion while working with private information. Advanced Microsoft Office skills including, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $50,000 to $55,000.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
