Description:Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Career Services, Compliance and Strategic Initiatives, the Director of Career and Professional Development advises students on matters relating to internships, fellowships, their careers, and employment opportunities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:· Reviewing and editing students’ resumes and cover letters.· General career and professional development coaching, including student preparation for legal employment.· Identifying information about employment opportunities in the private and public sectors for students and alumni.· Preparation of resource materials.· Participation in job fairs.· Organizing career, professional development, and job-search related programs for students.· Developing and maintaining close working relationships with public and private sector employers.· The position will require attendance at events on Long Island and in New York City and evening hours are occasionally required.· Attending events on Long Island and in New York City.· Evening hours are a part of the position and events are occasionally scheduled on the weekends.
· A J.D. degree is required.· Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication and interpersonal skills.· Ability to work independently and as a member of a larger student services team.· Attention to detail is critical in the review of students’ documents.· Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.· Presentation skills necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:· Prior legal coaching or career marketing experience.· Advanced computing skills, including use of social media.
