Department of Educator Preparation and Leadership
Job DescriptionThe Department of Educator Preparation and Leadership at the University of Missouri– St. Louis (UMSL) seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow of Literacy Education. The Postdoctoral Fellow will gain experience working on a federally-funded, statewide research project with a group of scholars focused on developing research-based, equitable literacy education in the state of Missouri.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is one of 11 states to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Education for its Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) program. The goal of the Missouri CLSD project is to support educators’ working knowledge of evidence-based literacy strategies to effectively teach reading and writing to all students. This includes providing professional development to pre-service teachers in institutions of higher education, early childhood education teachers and K-12 educators to enable them to provide effective instruction. This grant will additionally support districts with developing evidence-based literacy plans to implement in their local schools and provide support for families. The UMSL team will focus on research-based, equitable literacy education in the St. Louis region.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate with the CLSD project team in all study phases including participant recruitment, quantitative and qualitative research design, data collection, data analysis, and publication of results. The candidate should demonstrate the capability to initiate and complete research. We seek a colleague who can collaborate with the research team throughout the state and engage with local schools. Other activities include designing, supporting, and facilitating professional development activities and working with K-12 practitioners.
