Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado College of Nursing is seeking a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) for a 1.0 FTE, benefits-eligible, position with its University Nurse Midwives (UNM) faculty practice in Aurora, CO (on the Anschutz Medical Campus) to provide antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, wellness and gynecological care to a select population. This position is clinically based as a health care provider and includes an instructor level, non-tenure clinical practice track appointment within the College of Nursing. The University of Colorado, College of Nursing currently has four academic midwifery faculty practices and a midwifery education program. This full-time position will work night shifts 50% of the time.

Faculty Practice Description:

UNM works collaboratively within the OB/GYN department and offers families many services including individualized care, group prenatal care, childbirth education, lactation services, behavioral health services, and referrals to specialty care with the University of Colorado and UCHealth systems. UNM provides full-scope midwifery care to individuals at the Anschutz Medical Campus and inpatient care to STRIDE clinic patients. UNM believes that families benefit from personalized and comprehensive care that focuses on the individual while including the family in the plan of care. The practice provides care to families from many countries and strive to offer culturally appropriate care. This position is a faculty appointment and involvement in the College of Nursing is expected. The nurse-midwife will be part of a midwifery service that consists of 19 CNMs and has a long and successful history within the University of Colorado system.

Supervision Received:

Work is performed independently under the direct supervision of the UNM Clinical Lead.

Supervision Exercised:

Student supervision is required during clinical placements.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Provide full scope care to the gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum client
  • Provide care in the outpatient setting, Obstetrics Emergency Department, and Labor & Delivery unit
  • Utilize limited obstetric ultrasound skills in the outpatient and inpatient setting
  • Attend monthly practice meetings and participate in a minimum of 1-2 practice and/or College of Nursing committees.
  • Educate health care team learners (APNs, medical students, residents) and actively participate in student evaluations.
  • Perform work in a health care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious disease.
  • Actively participate in health plan contracts.
  • Remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary range for each position has been established at:

$95,683 - $105,252 annually at Instructor of Clinical Practice/CNM,

$95,683 - $105,252 annually at Sr. Instructor of Clinical Practice /CNM

$95,683 - $105,252 annually at Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice /CNM

Minimum Qualifications – Assistant Professor:
    Doctoral degree in nursing or midwifery from an accredited institution Current AMCB certification A minimum of one year of full scope practice providing antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well woman and gynecological care Current RN, APN and RxN licensures in good standing (Any State) Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have Colorado licensures by date of hire.
Demonstrated leadership in area of practice. Demonstrated experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students in practice activities.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be willing and able to work 50% night shifts.
  • Must be willing and able to provide full scope contraceptive services and counseling on abortion services.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado RN, APN, RxN licenses by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current, active DEA licensure
  • Limited OB ultrasound experience
  • Experience in waterbirth and alternative labor/birth options.
  • Experience working in a high patient volume and/or high-acuity setting
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary clinical care teams
  • Experience utilizing bilingual skills (Spanish/English) at a conversation level in a clinical setting
