General Summary

The AV Designer is responsible for working with the LSAVT Project Coordinator and campus partners to determine the audio-visual design and redesign of new and existing learning spaces at ISU. They will act as a subject matter expert guiding and influencing decision-making on classroom, conference room, and common spaces design regarding AV design, AV installation, and AV integration.

Additionally, the AV Designer:

  • Analyzes client needs and requirements and designs appropriate AV systems including the production of design documents, specifications, and documentation.
  • Identifies and recommends AV best practices and installation details.
  • Compiles AV design standards/specifications for ISU spaces, including standards, measurements, as built documentation, etc.
  • Partners closely with the lead technician and other technical staff to set quality assurance standards and performs the final approval/configuration/commissioning of the spaces and systems.
  • Collaborates with lead technician and LSAVT Director on coordination of training plans and staff skill development.
Additional Information

Learning Spaces and Audio/Visual Technologies is responsible for the maintenance and operational support of the instructional technology in the 198 "general-use" classrooms as well as the 166 "departmental" classrooms across campus.

Learning Spaces and Audio/Visual Technologies also provides demonstrations and training on the use of instructional technology in the classrooms and design, installation, and technical support for colleges, departments, and service units looking to install advanced technology in classrooms and other settings.

Required Qualifications
  1. Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
    a) Progressively more responsible work experience in IT related profession.
    b) College course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    -60 semester hours or Associate's degree equals one year
    -90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two years.

  2. Demonstrated experience using or supporting AV over IP equipment (example SVSI, etc.).

  3. Demonstrated experience reading basic blueprint/CAD drawings and other planning documents

  4. Demonstrated ability to work closely and communicate with architects, facilities, and trades personnel, as necessary.

  5. Demonstrated experience with designing A/V systems and AVIXA CTS-D (Classroom Technology Designer) certification or willingness to complete within six months of hire.

  6. Demonstrated experience in training technical staff in the implementation of AV installation, configuration, and documentation.

  7. Demonstrated experience in Quality Assurance of AV installations

  8. Experience working in an Audio/visual environment such as an AV integrator or university AV office.
Work Hours

Core business hours are 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; most work will be performed during standard working hours, but occasional after hours work and/or emergency calls are required due to the nature of the position. Work during standard working hours will be performed on-site; after hours work will be a combination of on-site and/or remote work, as appropriate.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam.
