Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Accounting and Finance Department welcomes applicants for a Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor position beginning August 2023.

Responsibilities may include teaching Managerial Finance, Cases in Finance, Investments, Financial Markets, Behavior Finance, and other finance courses in our Wealth Management concentration; as well as advising students, performing scholarly research, and department and university service. This person will be joining us at an exciting time for our growing college, with new majors, concentrations, and cocurricular initiatives being crafted. We especially value individuals who can lead our wealth management concentration and be a key advisor to the Marauder Fund. We also seek candidates that can display evidence of research with students or other high impact student engagement. Actual course assignments will depend on department needs and will include mixed modalities.

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications as well as aligned with the details contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (http://www.passhe.edu/inside/HR/LR/Pages/default.aspx) and the Millersville University Promotion Statement (http://www.millersville.edu/about/administration/policies/).
Minimum qualifications required to be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate include having an earned doctorate and a minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience (or its equivalent) and scholarship commensurate with this rank.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctoral degree or active doctoral candidate, with completion required to be eligible for reappointment to the third year.
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in finance.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in the field of finance (peer and student evaluations) spanning a minimum of two years.
  • A Statement of Teaching Philosophy.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.
  • Ability to support preparation of accreditation materials.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview and teaching demonstration.
  • Successful reference checks.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in finance.
  • Multiple relevant professional designations (ex: CFP, CFA).
  • Experience teaching both introductory and upper-level finance courses.
  • Evidence of current peer reviewed publications in business journals.
  • A demonstrated record of conducting research with students, consistent with Millersville’s mission as a teaching university.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching across different modalities.
  • Significant relevant experience and accomplishments in the wealth management industry.

Job Description:

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, service learning, etc.), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days.Major responsibility is to teach undergraduate courses in finance and wealth management. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.
Faculty are expected to develop and teach day, evening and/or weekend courses through multifaceted teaching strategies for in-person instruction and/or hybrid or online modalities.All members of the faculty also have the responsibility to accept those reasonable duties assigned to them within their fields of competence.
Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update; learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs; and participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops.
Expectation to mentor undergraduate students in research or other high-impact practices, as appropriate.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Lombardo College of Business is comprised of six full-time faculty members. The college has approximately 750 undergraduate students and offers BS degrees in accounting, finance, information technology, marketing, management, and business administration. The Lombardo College of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Essential Functions:

  • Major responsibilities include teaching major and/or non-major courses (lectures and/or labs) in finance as well as courses within his/her area of specialization in order to cover the faculty complement vacated by the prior faculty member.
  • Additional duties include but are not limited to developing a research program in finance that involves undergraduates, academic advisement, as well as assessment and accreditation activities.
  • Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.
