Postdoctoral Research Associate

Description:

The laboratory of Dr. Bettaieb in the Department of Nutrition at the university of Tennessee-Knoxville is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral researcher with a demonstrated track record in basic sciences related to obesity/diabetes and cancer. Research in Dr. Bettaieb Laboratory uses multidisciplinary approaches to dissect the cellular and molecular mechanisms contributing to the etiology of these diseases (for more information, visit the lab website https://abettaie.wixsite.com/laboratory).



Qualifications
Responsibilities

    Design and conceptualize experiments to perform cutting edge molecular biology research to uncover novel biological mechanisms regulating energy balance and glucose homeostasisOrganize and conduct in vivo/ ex vivo and in vitro studies independently (including preparation, data collection, interpretation, and presentation)Author manuscripts for quality publications in top-tier journals.
Duration: 1-3 years, depending on Funding and performance.  

Qualifications 

Education and experience

    PhD related to biological sciences. A strong background in endocrinology, metabolism, and/or cancer. A proven track record of publishing is required. Ability to work independently and also in a group/collaborative environmentEffective communications skills, self-motivated
Technical skills requirements

Hands-on experience with in vitro cell culture and in vivo rodent experimentation, molecular biology (PCR and RT-PCR, cloning, gene editing techniques), protein detection (ELISA, Western blot), immunochemistry/histology. Experience with ‘omics methods and datasets is desired.  

Physical position requirements

    Flexible working hours. Extensive rodent work. Handling Lenti-, retro-, and/or adeno-viruses.Handling human and non-human primate tissues.
