Job Overview

The Director of Academic Advising is responsible for academic advising and program development. As an academic advisor for Georgetown Law students, they have a strong understanding of academic policies, degree requirements, and the curriculum and are responsible for advising and programming for J.D. transfer students, students approved to visit away, and students visiting to Georgetown Law from other law schools in addition to all other J.D. students. As well, they are responsible for drafting, assessing, and enforcing academic policies as necessary.

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the Executive Director for Advising Services, the Director of Academic Advising interacts directly with current and prospective students and works closely with other academic administrators and faculty; and also interacts frequently with academic departments within the Law Center.

Qualifications
  • J.D.
  • 5 years of legal experience or equivalent experience
  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and a record of academic success. Careful attention to detail and the ability to be a thoughtful and creative problem-solver while working with various constituencies within the Law Center and the University
  • Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities and meet firm deadlines
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite


Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in higher education and/or academic counseling
  • Experience with databases
