Requirements

Georgetown University's Planning and Facilities Management department is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic III who will support the operations of a 24 hour a day 7 day a week building maintenance and response team to provide coverage and emergency response.

What you will do:
  • Perform work on A/C and heating repairs, ventilating and pumping equipment; repair and troubleshoot all plumbing repairs (e.g., fire alarms, lock outs electrical outages, water main breaks, building floods.
  • Perform technical trades work to maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment as part of the services provided by the facilities management department to maintain university buildings.
  • Assist other trade shops in Facilities Operations Division with basic electrical and plumbing system maintenance and repair work, as required.
  • Responsible for all repairs /maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems and components, and ability to read and comprehend DDC control logic.
  • Perform master mechanic level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices.
  • Provide daily maintenance support to building users to respond to calls for service, make scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and similar service.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements, surveys and similar projects.
  • Use all standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade and observes all safety rules, regulations and precautions in performing all duties.


Your are someone who is:
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in building automation controls with strong background in Direct Digital Control systems (DDC).
  • Able to inspect, adjust, calibrate and install pneumatic and mechanical devices.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with using associated test instruments and diagnostic tools; generally responsible for the pneumatic air compressor, air lines, actuators, dampers, valves, thermostats, end devises, pneumatic-electronic (PE) switches, and so forth.


Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

The Maintenance Mechanic III position reports directly to the Supervisor of the Maintenance Shop working within the Facility Operations Division along with employees of other trades, and trades helpers.

The work performed by incumbent is a direct service to the department ensuring a comfortable, safe and clean environment, in which the University community can live, learn and work.

The Maintenance Mechanic III works mainly with employees in the Facilities Management area but as work is being performed, will interact with students, faculty, staff and visitors as they traverse the campus. It is important that the employee work cooperatively with fellow employees and building occupants to assure work is completed on time and according to specified plans.

Qualifications
  • Completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training in the stationary engineer trade.
  • Possession of an appropriate stationary engineer's license for the facility assigned. DC 1st Class Engineer's License required.
  • Academic Level: High school diploma or GED required. Master mechanic, journeyman plumber, or journeyman electrician designation preferred.
  • Practical Experience: Requires 4-5 years of experience performing general building maintenance work utilizing intermediate electrical, plumbing and HVAC /refrigeration skill.
  • Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification: Requires a Journeyman's license in the heating/ventilating and air conditioning and refrigeration, plumbing or electrical trade. Must have knowledge of building automation systems; specifically, DDC system and computer controls and a good working knowledge of pneumatic controls. Must be computer literate.
  • Must possess a valid driver license. To drive a university vehicle, must become a university authorized driver.
