We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Accounting beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year.

School of Accountancy /College BackgroundThe School of Accountancy at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley offers students Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. degrees in accounting from highly qualified faculty dedicated to student's success. The education that students receive at UTRGV will prepare them for a variety of career opportunities: public accounting through the CPA Exam, management accounting in a private or public company, internal and external auditing, to name a few examples. Our graduates successfully work in many different organizations ranging from local CPA firms to major accounting firms across the nation, from government entities such as the Governmental Accounting Office to large public corporations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Doctoral degree in accounting from an accredited institution (ABDs will be considered, but the doctoral degree is required no later than the proposed start date).
  2. Potential for high impact scholarship as evidenced by a portfolio of high-quality published and/or ongoing research.
  3. Evidence of teaching effectiveness in accounting courses at the college/university level.
  4. Desire to work collegially with faculty and students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  5. To be considered for a tenured Associate Professor/Professor position, the candidate must be a tenured faculty at a peer-level or higher university and have a demonstrated record of research and teaching excellence. If you’d like to be considered at a rank other than Assistant Professor, please indicate that on your application.
  6. Candidates must also meet the institutional and college requirements for tenure to be considered for the position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.





Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Strong evidence of potential publication success in top journals and quality instruction.

Preferred Qualification:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are important.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to
demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
