The Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE), within the College of Engineering and Computing at Missouri University of Science and Technology, is seeking candidates for a non-tenure track (NTT) teaching position with a 9-month appointment at the Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to help the department maintain the highest possible pedagogical standards for the ABET accredited undergraduate Metallurgical Engineering and Ceramics Engineering degree programs of MSE.

The MSE Department at Missouri S&T has one of the largest undergraduate enrollments in North America. Our department has world-class physical facilities to support the undergraduate teaching mission. Students have access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure and modeling tools for design, synthesis, characterization, testing, and performance-optimization of a wide variety of materials. MSE has several major research centers which are leading the nation in advanced research and development, with annual expenditures from sponsored research activities exceeding $12M. The successful candidate will join a renowned group of collegial faculty as part of an award winning team. This person will enable continued growth of the departmental programs, and help educate, train, and mentor the next generation of engineers and scientists.

Candidates should, at a minimum, have an advanced engineering degree in materials science, and with a preferred emphasis in metallurgy and/or ceramics. Previous experience in teaching at the university-level and/or training in an industrial setting are desired. Other desirable qualities include excellent teaching skills, organizational abilities, communication skills, and an ability to relate to students.

Teaching duties will be determined based on the areas of expertise of the successful candidate as well as the needs of the department. The successful candidate is expected to coordinate and participate in outreach programs that are an integral part of the department and the university’s recruitment activities.

The appointment is anticipated to begin in Fall 2023.
