JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Florida’s only public university exclusively teaching science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is looking for exceptional candidates to serve as the Academic Affairs Leadership Program Coordinator.

The Leadership Programs Coordinator provides execution and improvement support for Florida Poly’s array of student experiences that focus on leadership and the development of professional skills in and around our university community. These include opt-in programs as an extra-curricular activity for students, the emerging leaders' program where students are nominated for participation, and support of activity embedded within the curriculum that develops professional skills to mold workplace-ready students. The position formally reports to the Director of Career Services and Professional Development and plays a critical role in supporting student development and leadership initiatives at our university. This role is highly collaborative, blending administrative tasks, organization skills, and effective communication to be an asset to the team involved in the leadership program and other programs that develop student leaders.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communication and Collaboration:

  • The selection of leadership programs across the university are led by multiple individuals in the university which requires careful communication with all process owners and institutional stakeholders; professional communication with students is always a requirement.
  • Work with distinct programs in leadership (ULEAD, Emerging Leaders, Curricular programs) to inform the university community of the opportunities, focus, and overall activity associated with each program.
  • Create assessment measures that best fit leadership program opportunities available at the university.
  • Work with department chairs to support leadership and professional skills development opportunities for our students through activities embedded in the curriculum.

Direct Support of the Leadership Program:

  • Support the VPSA in the ongoing ULEAD programs. This will include development of detailed plans based on broad details provided, management scheduling of resources needed for activity, marketing/publicizing activities, and executing activities.
  • Support of the Emerging Leaders Program. This will include development of detailed plans based on broad details provided, scheduling of resources, coordinating with other areas of the university, and in general building a program at the direction of the faculty liaison in leadership.
  • Support curricular events that involve a large cross section of the student body and are rooted in the curriculum. Examples are the capstone design project fair, and the hackathon for an all-freshman class that occurs at the midpoint of the fall semester.
  • Support PLS and student leaders with training and logistics needed to run an important learning resource program at the university.
  • Support other events and activities at the direction of the VPSA, the Faculty liaison, and the director of career and leadership.
  • Develop and provide tracking of the various leadership programs in terms of students and their effectiveness.

Career Services and Professional Development

  • Support career-focused efforts including support of Career Fairs and Handshake

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations, diplomacy, and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and complete projects 'on time and on task'.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues and the ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and deadlines and to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to set up assessment systems for impact of leadership programs.
  • Experience with financial management and budget preparation.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a very busy environment and manage multiple initiatives that overlap in time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-years’ professional experience within an Academic Affairs setting, or master’s degree with 3-years’ experience in an Academic Affairs setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree with five or more years similar experience in academic coordination and program management.
  • STEM degree (s) from an accredited higher education institution.
  • Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.
  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is non-exempt/salary exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., however, occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required. [Travel between campus locations may be required]

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $46,000 - $51,000, commensurate with experience.
