Division of Student Success

Position Summary:

The Division of Student Success is recruiting a Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO is responsible for the planning, coordination, and assessment of strategic priorities on behalf of the Vice Provost for Student Success (VPSS) and Division of Student Success (DSS). The COO strategically oversees the DSS $12 million budget, ensures financial compliance, improves processes to execute unit strategic priorities and initiatives. The position supervises two professional staff members and represents the VPSS in campus-level budget, Human Resources (HR), and facilities strategy conversations. Reporting to the VPSS, the COO serves on the VPSS executive leadership team and has access and oversight to highly confidential personnel and budgetary issues. The COO serves as a strategic thought leader and confidant to the VPSS.



Qualifications
Job Responsibilities:

  • The COO provides oversight of divisional budgets ($12m+) and financial compliance and processes. Represent the VPSS and DSS in university-level strategic budget, HR, facility and strategic initiatives. Oversight of HR, personnel issues, and highly confidential executive briefings on behalf of the VPSS.
  • The COO is responsible for short and long-term renovations and the development of a new Student Success building. The position will provide executive oversight of the new facility including development of an operational budget, security and safety, and ensure the needs of students, faculty and DSS are accounted for during the development process.
  • The COO will hire, train, evaluate, and lead two professional staff members. Provides or facilitates initial and ongoing training to ensure employees have the appropriate knowledge, skills, and resources to succeed.
  • The COO oversees division-wide support for operational functions including annual compliance training, self-assessment of controls, and contract compliance. Provides or facilitates communication and training for to ensure Student Success leadership and staff are aware of and comply with university-wide and system-wide policies.
Competencies/Qualifications:

Ability to lead new initiatives and complex projects to achieve measured outcomes. Aptness to manage strategic stakeholder communication and outreach efforts. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate, listen, create and build consensus around new ideas. Knowledge of PowerPoint, and other presentation tools. Capacity to navigate, advise and lead change management. Highly organized and detail orientated. Customer service driven and student focused attitude and approach to project work and relationship building.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of enrollment management practices, including higher education, student success, student services and higher education industry as whole. Ability to analyze data for the purposes of measuring program effectiveness and providing return on investment (ROI) summaries.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in business, management, relevant disciplines. Supervision experience. A minimum of 5 years professional experience with strategic oversight of budgets, facilities or human resources. Experience with fiscal forecasting and strategic budget decisions. Demonstrated success at coordinating new initiatives and complex projects to achieve measured outcomes. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate, listen, create and build consensus around new ideas. Highly organized and detail orientated and experience improving business processes and procedures. Customer service driven attitude and approach to project work and relationship building.

Preferred Education & Experience:

Master's Degree. 7 years professional experience, including demonstrated success in project management and change management. Experience managing high-stakes, visible projects within higher education. Experience working closely with executive leadership.

Anticipated hiring salary: Minimum of $80,000
