Established in 2015, the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) is home to a U.S. News & World Report top twenty-five ranked computer science graduate program and a top-thirty ranked undergraduate program.Today, CICS has 74 faculty, including 40 faculty hired in the past five years. Job Description

The Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is looking for exceptional PhD recipients who are interested in furthering their teaching experience as Teaching Fellows while maintaining research activity in preparation for a future faculty position at a top liberal arts college or research university. We encourage applications from recent PhD recipients as well as those expected to be conferred in the next year, though the PhD must be completed before starting this position.

We are looking for individuals with a strong interest in, and commitment to, teaching who are willing to work collaboratively with our Teaching Faculty and other Teaching Fellows to develop and continuously refine our curricula. There are no required research-related duties, although research activities are highly valued and encouraged.

Teaching Fellows typically teach four courses per year (or equivalent based on other duties and activities) in various focus-areas of the information and computer sciences and at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Teaching Fellows are expected to participate in teaching development workshops run by the college and by the university. Teaching Fellows are encouraged to continue their research activity, typically building on or extending their PhD work, preferably in collaboration with a member of the faculty where possible. Other responsibilities may include curriculum development and other administrative or scholarly duties as determined by the Associate Dean of Educational Programs and Teaching.

Teaching Fellows are appointed for an initial term of one year. Reappointment for a second (and final) year is desirable, but will depend on performance, program needs, and budget sufficiency. This is an academic-year position, with teaching responsibilities for 9 months of the year. Opportunities for teaching additional summer courses may be available for additional compensation. Teaching Fellows have a formal title of Lecturer and are eligible for all benefits other non-tenure track faculty receive. Requirements

Before starting in this position, applicants must hold a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field.Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant is preferred.

Starting Date: September 1, 2023. Other start dates (e.g., Spring 2024 or Fall 2024) may be considered.
