Job Description:

Coordinate general programs, education, and outreach for students and the campus community related to community and civic engagement.

  • Create, develop, and implement general programming for UF community related to community engagement, civic engagement, direct service, and educational efforts.
  • Manage annual days of service programming provided by the department (e.g., MLK Day/Week of Service).
  • Create, manage, and implement direct service opportunities and programs available for members of the UF Community for students to focus on the local Alachua County area (e.g., UF Serves).
  • Support recognition programs for volunteers and community members (e.g., Presidential Service Awards).
  • Create and implement advising, training, leadership development, and support for service-related student groups and organizations on campus and within the department as required.
  • Create, develop, and implement civic engagement focused programming with BCLS team in collaboration with the Bob Graham Center
  • Assist with implementation, participant management, and education associated with community focused funding opportunities for students (e.g., Projects for Peace, Microgrants).
  • Integrate social issue education and/or service learning into community engagement programs, safety and risk management, and related topics.
  • Provide onsite management of events as needed.
  • Assist with the development of leadership, service, or departmental presentations to various audiences.


Design, develop, and oversee ongoing, mutually beneficial community engagement efforts and programming.

  • Responsible for creating community and civic engagement initiatives and programs designed for individual or group participation that fosters learning, encourages growth, and ongoing participation.
  • Facilitate collaborative partnerships with service and/or civic organizations in Alachua County, City of Gainesville, and the UF community for the purpose of student and university member’s community engagement.
  • Liaise with faculty and academic units to establish relationships, partnerships, and programming that enhance the programs and services provided by the Brown Center for Leadership and Service
  • Recruit participants, coordinate registration, and document and maintain records of attendance, for all activities and programs related to programs and events.
  • Assist with student facilitator recruitment, training, leadership development, and management for service-related student groups.
  • Develop goals relevant to the program and provide direction for goal accomplishment.
  • Assess community and student impact of goals based on student learning objectives and community needs.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with department and University policies, guidelines, and other relevant regulations including but not limited to use of facilities, ADA compliance, security requirements, and special event approval requirements.
  • Assist with the development, appropriate dissemination and enforcement of specific policies, procedures, and guidelines for program participation, facility and equipment use.
  • Provide onsite management of events as needed.

Assist with administrative functions of the Brown Center for Leadership and Service.

  • Assist with assigned portion of area budget and track expenditures related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Support in the development and implementation of program assessments and reporting.
    Collaborate on risk mitigation strategies and practices and serve as emergency/crisis/incident responder as necessary.
  • Coordinate alumni outreach initiatives on behalf the of the department as needed.
  • Collaborate to develop marketing and promotions strategy for educating students and encouraging co-curricular involvement.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and guiding goals and strategic planning for programs and initiatives offered by the department.
  • Assist as needed on logistics and travel for the Florida Alternative Break program.
  • Assist in coordination and management of departmental student groups, including recruitment, leadership development, training, student outreach, presentations, and program planning.
  • Develop and provide leadership and service outreach and presentations to various student and campus partner audiences.

Develop reports, handle special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Contributes to the division and university through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives (example opportunities: event support team, conduct committee, student welcome events, medical petition committee, etc.).
Expected Salary:

$43,000-$47,000 annually.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of theoretical foundation in the principles and practices of community engagement, service-learning, and civic engagement work
  • Experience in developing and providing training, seminars, and workshops in community engagement, volunteer coordination
  • Experience in advising students at the college or university level
  • Experience planning and implementing community-focused programs and events
  • Experience within an institution of higher education or non-profit
  • Demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in volunteer recruitment, training, and management.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team setting with diverse populations is essential.
  • Awareness and desire to learn about equity and justice-centered issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain community partnerships
