Job Description:


Budget Title: Instructional Support Associate (SL-2)


Salary: $44,374 - $60,000


The Electronic Resource Support Associate is a detail-oriented professional working as part of a team responsible for providing continuing access to online library resources for Binghamton University students, faculty, and researchers. As an integral member of the Technical Services Department in the Library, this individual will catalog and activate access to electronic books, databases, archival collections, and journals. The incumbent also serves on the Electronic Resources Troubleshooting Team, working to resolve complex problems with access to resources.


The position reports to Senior Electronic Resource Specialist, with the Assistant Head of Acquisitions as a second-line supervisor.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Catalog e-books, archival collections, databases and other scholarly materials in Alma; activate resources within collections.
  • Evaluate quality of vendor records.
  • Ensure continual, consistent online access to digital content. Keep abreast of changes in technology and cataloging standards and policies.
  • Resolve complex issues throughout the lifecycle of electronic resources; identify and provide solutions.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of ebook publisher and subscription packages by ensuring that additions are made available for discovery in a timely and accurate manner. With others on the team, reconcile changes in publisher or vendor for ongoing online titles within packages.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electronic resource problems, interacting with other library units as necessary.
  • Maintain records of e-books for verification of access.
  • Serve on the Electronic Resources Troubleshooting Team; be proactive in problem identification and resolution.
  • Participate in maintenance of electronic resources. Manage and update active databases, electronic collections and portfolios in the integrated library system. Report discrepancies to appropriate team members.
  • Assist in the maintenance of locally created electronic collections, including importing, deleting and updating portfolios.
  • Participate in a work culture that promotes diversity and anti-racism and actively works to eliminate or mitigate the effects of systemic racism and bias.
  • Participate in library and University committees when appropriate.



Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet software
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply other types of software and programs
  • Ability to work through problems and focus on attention to detail
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology and software

Preferred:


  • Previous work experience in a library or archive
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and anti-racism

History

Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.

Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.

In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.

In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
