Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

This position provides support within the Dean’s Office by serving the College of Education and Human Services, frequently interacting with faculty, staff, and other Murray State units. Communication originated from this position also reaches students, alumni, prospective students and their families, K-12 schools within Murray State’s 18-county region, and the community at large. Collaboration with the University’s Office of Branding, Marketing and Communication as well as promotional vendors and local media representatives should be expected.

  • Writing press releases, preparing regular electronic newsletters, managing social media accounts.
  • Updating college web pages, designing advertisements and other marketing graphics.
  • Ordering promotional items and overseeing the annual inventory process.
  • Monitor the Dean’s office email account, moderating college-wide student Canvas course, and assisting with event planning and execution.
  • Daily clerical matters can also be expected, such as processing paperwork, submitting work orders, answering phones, recording meeting minutes, maintaining COEHS Intranet with current meeting minutes as submitted by faculty and staff, and delegating tasks to student workers when appropriate.
  • Others duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Two years of college education. Additional college education and related work experience may be exchanged year-for-year to meet qualifications.

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Three years of secretarial experience required. Additional college education and related work experience may be exchanged year-for-year to meet qualifications.
  • Publicity, marketing, and social media skills required.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively without direct supervision.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.
  • Must be able to adapt to varying workloads, multitask, and handle multiple deadlines.
  • Must have exceptional organizational and time-management skills and the ability to computer multi-level tasks requiring the ability to make decisions, give directions and instructions, and the ability to independently solve problems.
  • Must adhere to the needs of the Dean’s Office for confidentiality and professionalism.

Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of University forms and procedures is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Google Suite/ Workspace
  • Knowledge of website design and editing
  • Knowledge of Banner

Hourly Rate:

$12.75 (Additional pay dependent upon qualifications)

Work Hours:

  • Infrequent nights and weekends will be required to assist with college events.
